Since Nov 2010 after 25 yrs under canvas.
Now Boris is on a roll, we will leave EU on 31st January, with a 1 year transition period of 1 year. Does anyone here know whether we are still free to travel in 2020 with Schengen kicking in after the transition or does it apply on 1st February 2020?

We want to plan our European visits.

Thanks

There are countries in the Schengen area that are not members of the EU. I expect we'll be able to travel freely as they do now.

I was under the impression that it will take a year for all these new (old?) restrictions to be applied - is that not so?

We did not sign up to Schengen when an active EU Member so I think it unlikely we will do so after leaving.

You will need your passport to visit Scotland and the Isle of Wight I believe.
maybe even cornwall. if mebyon kernow have their way.
best bring your passport and get a green card if coming to cornwall.
could even learn a few greetings in cornish to brake the ice etc .

Think that is the wrong way round. The Schengen area is part of the EU, so all Schengen counties are in the EU. Not all European countries are in the EU.

And not all EU members are in Schengen

Please accept my apologies for starting this thread. I was hoping that there would be a proper answer to my question.

I already have, at post #10. You can download a copy of the Q&As re the Withdrawal Agreement here.

Section 1 contains this text - a pic as I couldn't copy the text from the PDF:

I hope this is right.
For 2020 you will need

Passport
Green Card
Proper health insurance. Not sure when the E111 ceases but I always have travel/health insurance anyway.
IDP. Probably not needed yet but worth getting.

Usual V5 and MOT certificates

After the transition period - who knows?

There are 26 Member States in the Schengen area... 22 EU States and 4 non-EU states. Not all countries in the Schengen area are members of the EU.

The 90 day rule is currently active; however, the enforcement of the 90 day rule is currently limited.

I would be surprised if a definitive date is set and communicated when the law will be enforced in a more robust manor - I would assume an advisory / awareness communication will appear on the gov www advising persons to obey the law.

Wait and see I guess....

Yes and we've been able to travel freely. I don't see leaving the EU will be a barrier to travel.

Since when have we needed a green card or IDP? All stays as it is today during the transition period, which is of a flexible length so could run past the end of 2020.

Or if negociations break down end sooner?. As others have said I think no-one knows for a fact but the end of 2020 at least is a fairly safe bet.

No problem getting them. Belt and braces

I've had mine since the summer.
