Sat nav motorhome

I have an old falcon navigator, able to put in dimensions, never let me done yet🙂

I have recently bought a new motorhome and the radio was rubbish! replaced with a pioneer with built in sat nav, you can adjust size, I need to learn this bit! not been allowed out since I had it fitted:)

Hi looking for a sat nav for motorhome or app so can put sizes in
Springer52. You'll find quite a bit on the subject HERE.

My personal recommendation, (and has been for years), is the Nozatec or Xgody Chinese Sat Navs. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I bought one of these, works well and great for the money at a little over £40.

I nearly went for one of those Paul, but I opted for a different brand 9" Android version instead, which came with a built in dash cam. With the capacitive screen, (much better than the older Nozatec screens), and 2020 Truck Maps, it's the dogs dooh dahs. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

9" screen :xeek:, that's the advantage of an A class Jock, I would have to peer around the sides of it in our C class. :xrofl:

Jock which one did you go for please
I replaced my older 7" model with a 9" unit from AliExpress, but I won't be buying from them again. :(

9" Android Truck Sat Nav with Dash Cam.

If you are after a 9" unit, I suggest the Xgody X4. (Example only).

If you prefer a 7" unit, I suggest the Xgody 886. (Example only).

No matter what unit you go for, the maps will need updating as soon as it comes out of the box, as invariably, they don't have the all important .ftr files (Truck files).
If you are at bit IT savvy with a PC, it 's easy to do. (y)

For God's sake don't get the Alpine 903-DU. We had one fitted to our Ducato based motor home and I can safely say I have never had such trouble with any accessory. It cost us £1800 quid to fit and not only was the satnav awful (showing the van hundreds of yards off position, or simply stalled in place) but also the radio stations were crackly and would never hold station, either in DAB or FM. It took over nine months of back and forth, two new dedicated DAB & FM aerials fitted, a new control unit fitted and also a very long-winded 16 Gb download (done in 1Gb portions) and video call from the German branch of the Alpine tech department to install special parameters to ''solve'' the various problems and also enable us to enter our vehicle dimensions. Even now, I don't trust it, as it still wants to send us down too-narrow roads. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE THINGS, I urge you. If this was my first experience with Alpine I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole, but to be fair, I've had other Alpine products I've loved.

It sounds like it doesn't contain the all important Truck files (.tfr) Mick, which steer you clear of restrictive parameters less than those you entered for your vehicle.

As an experiment, try programming a route for a low bridge, which you know is too low for the height of your vehicle. That would confirm the existence (or not) of .tfr files. ;)

Very happy with my Garmin. Used all over UK, Spain and France. It also has built-in dash cam which is very useful.

Well each to their own I suppose but even though I have a pioneer system with a m’home sat nav and Apple CarPlay I still find myself using Google Maps via CarPlay as the interface is just so easy. I’ve driven 18 str Transit minibuses and Vauxhall Movanos extensively with Google Maps and height and width wise they would compare with a m’home. And the reason I use Google Maps is that I’ve yet to find a navigation system that is so helpful. If there’s a quicker route it suggests it, if I’m low on fuel it can search for stations, and if I want to add stops (way-points) that’s really easy too. I guess it’s just the convenience/ease of use of the system that makes other systems feel clunky by comparison.

We haves cheap Chinese say about which has taken us many places successfully over four years. Up dating the maps is an issue as the website given no longer works with what we received so let us all know how you get on

C M Navigation, supply an excellent MoHo sat nav takes all sizes and weights to give a route suitable for your vehicle. Try this link for more info .https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/cmnav.co.uk

Sorry to disagree. I followed a thread here and got an Xgody a few years back. Very basic functionality and the map updates just don't work no matter how tech savvy you are. Eventually started to go haywire and of course customer service from China is pants. I wasn't expecting much so not overly disappointed.

I think you summed up your problems by saying "a few years back" ...................... things have moved on.

To add a longer reply. I've tried the lot over the years, nothing really works well for long. My original purchase was a simple truck sat nav which worked OK for a couple of seasons but gradually proved inadequate. Then I tried the top brands. A Garmin Camper was positively dangerous, and after it tried sending me down a low underpass and then a tram tunnel in Le Havre I returned it for a refund, buying the Tom Tom equivalent instead.
That lasted just two years before it broke completely when I was installing the latest updates. Their customer service might as well been Chinese, they didn't want to know and offered me a 10% loyalty discount (ha ha). Then the Xgody as above. I still have that but have been trying the various apps like Co-pilot as they are relatively cheap and not reliant on crap hardware. Currently using a paid for version of Sygic and liking the interface.
The trouble with phone apps is the screen size and they seem to drain the battery faster than it can charge....

I will read this thread carefully because I would happily pay well for a reliable kit that can be updated and lasts more than a few seasons...
