Yes or no? Seems straight forward to fit do they make a big difference?

I fitted an extractor fan in the toilet Heki light. Sucks all hideous smells out 👌
It's just a 120mm computer fan in a perspex square.

Yes yes yes.

You will save money in the long run, the chemicals aren’t cheap.

Yes, it stinks when emptying, but that’s the only negative.

Wish I had got one years ago.

Sorry not with you, explain please ?
Pardon my ignorance… I thought a SOG was basically a venting pipe with small fan to vent the toilet cassette odours meaning no need to use chemicals to reduce the smell within the moho? We looked into installing one when we started. However not using chemicals will surely not breakdown solid matter (for those who do number 2s in their toilets (we don’t!), and having see youtube clips of people emptying cassette toilets at chemical dumps (not using chemicals) it looked quite revolting! (They were nearly puking!)

Have I got the wrong end of the stick??

We do all ours in ours, in fact I just emptied three days worth of full cassette that has been in the locker for another 3 days.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest, if you splash some onto you, it’s just pooh.

If you don’t have a SOG it will be Pooh and chemicals.

As an aside, don’t believe the blurb. In the time it is in there, it won’t break down with a SOG or chemicals, they both just stop it stinking.

SOG has a carbon filter so no outside smells. I inherited mine which strangely also has a Thetford extractor fan fitted (no idea why - presumably because the thetford fan doesn’t work very well) and it works well

Ours breaks down without chemicals (apart from some bleach)

Remember the last stage of your bowel dehydrates and solidifies the poo so all that happens in the toilet is the poo will rehydrate and turn back into diarrhoea 👌

Yes you’ll alway know if someone using a SOG has emptied their cassette
The smell will make you wrench
Far rather smell Thetford Green it’s kinder to the nostrils

I remember the worst smell ever was when I emptied the grey water into the cassette so I only had to make 1 journey to the toilet block. I'm not usually too squeamish about the smell... But jeez this was on another level, It was the foulest funk I've ever smelled. It's the only time I've ever felt myself retching and had to step back. I'll never mix them again 😳

I use some cheapo bio liquid in the cassette and it never smells bad when emptying

I've had SOG's with door mounted filters, through the floor filters, and a roof vent.

The roof vent is definitely works the best & it doesn't have a filter so no running costs. I recently converted my through the floor one to a roof vent, the only downside is with the wind in the wrong direction & a rooflight open you can get your own back.

The trough the floor ones work reasonably well although the say the filters need changing once a year they really need changing every 3 months. The filters are £25 but easy to refill yourself with active charcoal for about 3 quid.

The door vent ones keep the smell out of the van but can get pongy outside the van again they say change the filter once a year but it really needs changing every month or two. Anything but the genuine filters don't work very well. I really don't think it's worth fitting this type.

The Thetford version has a more powerful fan but they vent out directly under the loo and if the filters aren't changed every few weeks it gets smelly outside but you can refill the filters.

A roof vent SOG is definitely the best option.

SOG = yes

Saves: money, time, mess and the planet, seems to make sense to me(y)

It also means you can empty the cassette into a septic tank which with a chemical based system you cannot.

We have sog roof vented but I still pop a bit of washing powder in as it stops and build up in the cassette, I would fit a stronger sog fan if they did one, as we still get a smell coming up from the toilet when the flap is open.
I have checked all pipes and roof vent all clear.

Iast two vans had them and on our new van on order it was a definite tick box on the list, we’ve never looked back, relatively cheap as well.

We have had a SOG in our last two vans about ten years in total, I empty the cassette most mornings just after breakfast and always pour our washing up water down the loo first this helps to dilute any remaining solids and also helps emptying. O K there's sometimes a bit of a pong but no worse than chemical ones certainly none as some have described!

SOG? Definitely, no smells in washroom, no nasty chemicals to use or carry!
We use a cheap Bio laundry soap in ours usually just in the warmer weather!
