Rough price for handbrake tightening

Hi folks.
Need the handbrake done on our 11 plate Fiat ducato. Any ideas on rough price as don’t fancy trying it myself. Have seen the vids but rather get it done by someone else.

30 minutes to one hours labour charge at anywhere that works on vans.

If nothing is seized probably an hours labour so at an independent £60+ vat a lot more at a main dealer.

Couldn't put a price on it as it depends if you want it done properly or just tighten the handbrake cable.
More work involved doing it properly.

It’s more that’s it’s not holding well after the 7.5hr drive from Cornwall. So many hill starts later. It’s struggling to stay on levellers

Let it cool for an hour then try.
Putting the handbrake on with hot brakes will allow the brake to contract as it cools and slacken off.

May need new shoes.

I would suggest getting new shoes fitted also. They should do the adjustment as part of that job.

To adjust the handbrake correctly, if it’s the type that has a small drum inside the disc, the handbrake cable should be slackened off first adjust the shoes ( the self adjusters never work properly) the the cable. Care should be taken that the cable is not over tightened allowing the shoes to drag.
