Rouen and avoiding the low emission zone? (3 Viewers)

................ heading south next week and my route is via Rouen. I understand that the centre of the town is within their low emission zone. We have a 2003 Fiat based diesel and, as I see it, is not welcome in such places? I have a relative who does this route in a car twice a year and thinks that it is OK to use the road alongside the Seine which is outside the zone. I'm not so sure - Anyone done this route recently and can advise?

Thanks Simon! I've just found a very general map of the Rouen zone and overlaid it onto the google map planner and I now see the ring road more clearly. All good!

Though the big tunnel take a right and follow the D6015 towards Pont de Arch, no emissions control.

If you zoom into the map you will see the main roads are a corridor through which you can travel, well we can anyway, download the Green-Zones app.

I only zoomed in when it said we were not allowed and we are Euro 6D so I thought how the hell do we get around then as there doesn't seem to be any other routes.

From Dieppe I would go over the Pont de Brotonne using the D490 to the west of Rouen. Nice route and avoids all of the Rouen problems. A stopover at Mailerye sur Seine is a good call if you are coming on the Newhaven ferry that arrives in Dieppe at 2pm .

We stopped travelling via Rouen a few years ago and use Pont de Brottone. Yesterday we were in a rush so straight through Rouen. I didn't see anything telling me that there were restrictions.

I did come over the Pont de Brottone when I came down and will on the way back but for future reference what's the charge to go through the Rouen LEZ and how do you pay? I have a CritAir 2 does that cover it?

To my knowledge there is no "charge" you either have a compliant vehicle ,along with correct sticker, or you cannot travel in when the zone is in operation. If you do you can be fined. Think it is 135€ fine?

Not like the Uk where you can "pay" ro be dirty. It either complies or it cannot be in there.

You need to try harder, France is Motorhome heaven its the most friendly county in Europe for Motorhomes.

We know how you feel, can't wait to get back to pot holed, congested roads with verges full of litter, and being made to feel like gypsies.

We always used to see France as somewhere to get through on the way to somewhere nice, but if you slow down and explore it is a great place, very m/h friendly and lovely countryside.
