Hi we're picking up our 2018 Elddis 155 in a couple of weeks and I've just looked into the road tax. Have I read it correctly, as the original list price was over £40k and the engine is 2L I'm going to have to pay £280 + £335 (for first 5 years) ???
Cheers
Andy

Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000

You have to pay an extra £335 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle.

You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed).

Its a confusing issue as they implimented the road tax change and included motorhomes.
As far as i understand they then later amended it again and took motorhomes off the higher bracket,, There are some van that were registered in the higher band and cant be downgraded.
Best check with the seller and also maybe on a .gov online checker.

i would of thought the dealer or seller would of told you about the tax cost, if its a dealer ask for a discount to cover the cost.
best of luck and happy motor homing

Im confused as well.
They were going to introduce a wealth tax on all vehicles above £40,000 in April 2020, which is why I bought mine in November 2019.
As a result of the first Covid lockdown it was scrapped.
I only paid the standard fee of £230 last year

Only those MHs registered in the period where the 'hike' occurred will have to pay the rates you quote, as yours was registered in 2018 it won't.

If it was registered in November 2019 you should have paid the luxury rate. It applied between 1st September 2019 and 12th March 2020

There is some information here about the tax changes and dates implemented - can't absolutely confirm the veracity of the information, but it sounds very much like what I recall. Hope it's helpful.

That's why I'm confused with these dates.
I am sure it was going to be introduced in April 2020.

I checked my dates they are correct.

It was based on emissions & price not weight although at the time it was debatable if it applied to PHGV, it was rescinded before it was clarified.

I've just that my new van was registered and taxed by the dealership in November 2019.

Don't know how they managed that, 1st registration should have been about £2300 then around an additional £350 on top of VED for the next 5 years.

We escaped it when we bought our motorhome in May 2019 but the buggers got me when I changed my car earlier this year.

Lots of old threads about the road tax issue, a couple below for starters:

The actual start date was spposed to be april 2020 but some dealers & dvla started charging from the previous november incorrectly. It was the usual shambles.
That's why I'm confused with these dates.

No one should have paid before that date but , as above.

You dealer may not have put the emissions on the V55 where other did.
I'll see if I can see the omission.
Although they insisted all the time we were negotiation a deal that the wealth tax was to be introduced in April 2020

this ^^^

isnt it only £100 odd a year for PHGV 3500kg (cant remember what I paid now)
It's about a £100 discount over PLG. And I guess PHGV tax is fixed rate, not related to emissions if you've fallen down that rabbit hole.
