We took our van for a run out today and despite going extremely carefully and slowly as I saw it approaching, a flat bed truck smacked the driver's wing mirror, breaking the back and smashing the indicator bulb cover.

I'm sure this is a fairly common issue, and I'm hoping others will advise whether it's possible to replace just the back section with the indicator cover, which may be cheaper.

If so, are there any suggestions for reliable suppliers that don't charge the earth?

Have a look on flea bay £38 for a Renault mirror housing and indicator when *Fritz* decided that his side of the road was not enough ( Turkish speaking driver in the Black Forest!)

Have you thought about fitting new light, but leaving broken casing, and now fit protection covers?

That would offset the cost of the covers, and the damage would never be seen.

I have a pair on order from eBay that cost £30 delivered. Can let you know how good they are when they arrive if you like?

You can just buy the cover but check if its a long arm, med arm. There is a difference to the fitting. They cost no more than £30 each, the indicator comes as a sealed unit for about £10. All available on e Bay.

I think it's long arm and will search.

Didn't know about protective covers. Will also look up if folk rate them as useful!

Thanks for info folks.

There are some useful videos on u tube that also show how to dismantle etc.

These are the good ones. There are cheaper “covers” but these ones are protective covers, and tough.

as you will notice, they will cover your damage and that may help offset the cost.

You could just replace the indicator lens, tape up the mirror housing and then put the protector cover over it, you will never know;)

Mine has been as above for 3yrs now.

Thanks Landy Andy and Ridgeway . Have ordered covers and indicator unit for mirror and will fit as you advise.

Much appreciation to everyone who has posted.

Very similar damage to ManTheVan in fact it looks exactly the same.
Would appreciate any links to the items.
Also how do the mirrorguards fit onto the mirrors if the casing is damaged.

If someone posts for info on similar damage.................perhaps we "met" yesterday.

I got one of mine broken similar to picture, put some gauze through gap then used layers of filler sanded down and repainted looks as good as new cost about £2 to do.

I need to replace my drivers side electric wing mirror on our 2019 Fiat Ducato, plenty of info around for the task and have I released the mirror unit (nowt repairable complete write off).
I am now ready to purchase a replacement unit.
It just occurred can I upgrade to a power folding unit.
Any comments gratefully received.
