Just seen a MH on the hard shoulder of the clockwise M25 near M11.
Rear tyre blown to bits and lots of damage to bodywork and internal pipes/wires etc.
Not sure of model or age but if more than a few years old it's potentially a write off. If it's anyone on here, I'm gutted for you. :(

I wonder of they were going a bit fast and in one of the outer lanes?
On the M25 it can take a while to get over to the hard shoulder and the longer it takes the more the tyre disintegrates and the more damage it causes.
We had a rear blow out in Spain and it is scary.
Fortunately we were only doing 55mph and in the inside lane so my Wife who was driving managed to stop on the hard shoulder without too much drama.
Fortunately no bodywork damage at all.

We had a front tyre blow on motorway at 60mph in Spain scary and a rear blow on m5. Now have tyrepal fitted to monitor tyres for peace of mind.

We had a rear blow out on the van on the M20 about 6 years ago. A huge bang and a shudder but fortunately no body damage at all. Scary stuff.

It does sound scarey and I am thankful not have experienced one.
May I ask how tyrepal would give you warning? I assume a blowout is a sudden affair as opposed to a slow puncture from something like a nail.
Does the tyrepal system have time to warn you?

It has a rapid deflation alarm, but of course that only happens as you have the blowout. If the blowout is preceded by a rise in temperature or pressure or both, then it would also warn you of that.

Mine's got some of that jelly stuff in (tyres, that is). Wasn't sure about having it done, but it sounded good at the time.

I don’t think you can prevent these things.

My tyres were in good condition and had only done about 5000 miles. It happened to me in a car as well. Just bad luck I think.
