My van is plated at 3500kg with 12 months VED costing £260.
If I go through the exercise of re-plating to 3650kg. Will I benefit from the lower VED as a Private HGV?
If so would I be right in thinking, extra payload allowance and lower VED? Win win or do I have the wrong idea.
I do have C1 on my licence.

You will have some lower speed limits, and some higher tolls, eg austria go box.
Some roads with weight limits.

I don’t know at what weight you change the tax bracket.
Maybe a search online would give you this.

Can you go up 4T without too much trouble and expense.

You are right in your thinking, I upgraded from 3500kg to 4100kg.

Over 3500KG.

Our last mh we went from 3500kg >>3850kg and got the lower tax benefit yy yy

Don't know why but PHGV tax has not increased for years (y)

Over 3500kg you only pay £165 pa road tax, if you use the cheaper chap to do the uprate which costs around £150 or so it won't take long to recoup the cost and you'll have more payload to play with too, depending on your base chassis type you can usually go up to 3850kg on the light Fiat one, and as much as 4500kg on the heavy Fiat one.

tax for lorries was reduced as companies were registering vehicles abroad to save money and as foreign companies were running in uk at lower costs

Why only 3650 and not 3850kg/ Or was that a typo?

If you know and understand your chassis use Jhon Ruffles but if you are unsure and need advice pay the extra and use SV Tech.

Our last van we upgraded to 3850 but only gained 150 of the 350kg due to rear axle loading could have got the full 350 by spending £2½k on air suspension & new tyres.

The reason I quoted 3650kg is that that is the figure to which the Fiat X250 35 light chassis was homologated.
It was then plated at 3500kg by the converter.
From where is the figure 3850 derived?

Most Motorhomes on a 3500kg chassis are normally on a 3850 chassis that has been down plated. 3850kg is fairly standard for the light chassis.
Sounds like you need to talk to SV Tech.

Thanks for the info. As you suggest I will dig a little deeper.
The info I have I found here.

Sorry to jump on your topic im just about to go through the process of upgrading the weight limit on a motorhome (roller team zefiro 690g) witch is on a fiat light chassis and have been told i can go to 4100kg and a rear axal of 2250kg i was just wondering if anyone has got the rear weight up a bit more as i think i will still be over on the rear end iv already put airbags and bigger wheels/tyres witch is why it can go to 4100kg just wondering if there are any other mods to take the rear a bit more thanks.Russ

How do you find out which chassis you have? Light or heavy?
Who is the cheaper chap?
Thanks

Also some newer fiat lights came with 16inch alloys just to make it abit harder one way is to check bolt hole spacing for the wheels i think lights should be 118mm and maxi should be 130mm hope that helps

Your MIRO will not change so if under 3050kg speed limits are unaffected.
For instance my van has a MIRO 3045KG with a MPM of 4500KG(up plated from 3500KG) Speed limits are not changed.

JR consultancy but cheap ain't always best as SV Tech have done a lot of testing and will more than likely have done the model you have and advise accordingly.(y)(y)

I think this is only a uk rule. Abroad they will go on MPM.

The light chassis usually only has disc brakes on the front, the heavy one has them on front and rear.
