Afternoon Campers Hi de hi, has anyone got any idea how to get music to play on my Pioneer dab radio. Thank you in advance.

Most modern radio head units have a USB port. You select AUX or USB in the menu to play music from a stick. It also needs the USB stick to be formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 so it can be seen

You can load your music on that, select in menu, then play from that.
Or update it to one with Bluetooth ?

Hi Figaro
It has a USB hole to put the stick in when i look for the USB on the radio, it is sort of greyed out and doesn't allow you to highlight it.

Does it have an aux input jack ? If so you could play music from a phone or mp3 player.
Otherwise might be easier to upgrade to a unit with Bluetooth.
I think they're pretty cheap these days

It’ll likely only be a selectable option with a compatible USB stick installed.
Start with a small capacity USB stick and a few known working mp3 files.

Later you can try >4GB sticks and flac, m4a etc. media

If there’s nothing else wrong with your car stereo add a Bluetooth/FM adapter like the one on this link:

It’s what I use and like.
The little head unit brings playlist control of your smartphone.
Oh! Now I’ve got you switching from USB to a smartphone
Ours was only 12 quid 👌 no dab but any radio stations can be got on the phone via data anyway 😎

😎 That simple Bluetooth to FM only kit is a good option.

For us, with ever tightening rules on mobile use on the road and our music being for the drive, I like the Highway’s media playback controls and freedom from data usage 🤪

Edit:  sorry, the price at the link to the Pure’s own site I posted is a crazy price. Expect £40-50 street price for a new Pure Highway 400

Maybe Pure’s price is for them to visit and install the gadget too 🥸

if USB is greyed out, the stick can't be read. Usually the wrong format

As the TheBig1 says, it’s very wise to format the stick in FAT32 before loading your music on it, it’s what I’ve always done and had no problems👍

Also, just paste your song tracks directly onto the USB stick, without folders or directories, as it will not read content within folders (usually)

If you’ve got 2 u
USB cables in the top storage compartment you can also connect your phone/MP3 player too.
We use one for the iPhone which then activates CarPlay, and the other has a USB stick with audio shows.

Is that flat files usage a limitation of a VW’s Pioneer dab radio?
Not aware of it on other MP3 players.

I’m having my music in folders all the time 👍🏻

Not sure, sorry. My Kenwood‘s states that only top level music files will play, and those in folders will not be recognised

On my pioneer I plug my iPhone wire into the usb and play my music and radio (using data) via that.
