Thanks to Jims post the driving licence issue is now a lot clearer, but what about insurance ?
If things go the way expected, I would think you will need a green card to cover you
Up until now most insurance companies have issued them FOC, but whats the betting that will change !

The general (Brexiteer) belief is that currently the cost of providing everyone with cover will not need to be met.
Therefore the overall cost of insurance is sure to fall.

Only those requiring international travel will have to pay for their own cover, which is much more fair. (y)

To clarify, I am talking vehicle insurance.. and the standard green card certificate you have needed to go outside the EU ( such as Bosnia and Herzegovinia )

Que será, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que será, será
What will be, will be

And there's bugger all you or I can do about it so why worry.

Oh, I aint worried about it PJ, just a sort of gentle reminder to those who have forgotten such a thing may be needed

The wording at the end of your insurance certificate is in place of a green card. I doubt anywhere will really bother with it all.

If any EU country starts getting stroppy about green cards I'll just take my holiday money somewhere else.

If I didn’t know you better John I could say you are scaremongering :whistle::whistle:

It’s all down to 3 little letters

MAY

be needed

And it’s

MAY ..... Teresa

That MAY bugger the whole thing up. (n)(n)

there was a thread on here last week quoting the .gov website and they reckon current insurance for eu if brexit goes no deal will cease to be valid

Be a problem for anyone out there then

Hence the green card requirement, as it is for all countries outside the EU.
The green card is an add on which covers basic third party requirements under international law

Always had a green card with my spanish insurance it was part of the paper work.

I have been in touch with our MH insurer as we will be away into April they advised that I needed a green card and wanted to know where was I going and when would I be coming back! I had to state all the countries (I should have said all EU countries but didn't!)

I felt like I was going back in time! He wasn't happy when I told him I hadn't a clue when I was coming back somethime in April so we agreed end of April. No doubt we will be getting told we can only bring back 4 bottles of wine next. Jeez (end of mini rant!)

we are off to algarve on 24 march till 6 april , ryanair , renting a car from the airport, what will we need?(n)(n)(n)
might add im not loseing sleep over this , just wondering what the panel think.:)

I checked just begore I left

My insurance company safeguard said I have European cover not European union cover so nothing will change . They asked if I planned to visit morroco or turkey ...I said I didn't know so they have me a free green card just in case which is valid until my insurance renewal in late August.
I told them I didn't plan to be home in August so I expected to renew whilst still abroad same as last year and again they don't expect any reason why it woukd change.

That'll do me.

I don't have the idp thingies either as it's a load of bollox and I left before it came in to force.

As papajohn said ...why worry be happy
Sod all I can do anyway but fed up of the whole shambles

The general belief of the remainer is that the world is going to end on the 29th March so I wouldn't worry about a green card.

It seems to depend on the insurance compant. We had to cancel our trip but had we gone Comfort were going to issue us with a Green card free of charge in case a no deal Brexit happened whilst we were away just to be on the safe side. This was far safer for my sanity than worrying about who had or hadn't read the latest rules at the roadside in the event of an accident!

Recently we hired a car from Malaga airport and the company wanted to charge us about £251 insurance for 10 days hire.
Get the insurance before you go if you can.

I spoke to my insurer Caravanguard today, they have advised me to take a green card as I am leaving mid March for 2 months, they charged me £15.00 administration fee for the card. probally won't need it but better safe than sorry.

The only thing that is certain is that March 29 will be followed by March 30, probably.

We phoned Safeguard. They issued us with a green card to last for the life of the policy. It arrived in the post the following day (y).

That must be the only thing that has been planned perfectly in this embarrassing shambles.
