Depends how much you want to pay and how fast you want to get there.
You can get there by paying no toll, which will take you longer and more stress with roundabouts and other delays but you will see a lot more real french countryside and find free Aires to stay on.
On the other hand if you just need to get there quick you can stay on the motorway and pay, as tonka says 130 euros.
Now the best part is if you set your satnav to no tolls, note ,not no motowys, and you can get there almost as fast by useing mways when they are free and other roads when they are toll, and keep a map by you to see where it's going to send you and then calculate how much extra it will cost as to staying on the mway.
A bit of a ramble but I am sure you get the idea.

Yes well, occasionally I use toll roads...I noticed in the last few years that the camera sometimes classed me in a B544 Hymer as Class 3 I think it was instead of Class 2 because it took into account my arial when calculating height so I went just over 3 meters. I had to often push the button and tell them in my best French that I should be Class 2 much to the annoyance of drivers behind me. They always just changed it to Class 2. I think I’ll give up using tolls altogether now as my new Hymer has a big Satelite dish on and so am sure it will ALWAYS be over 3 meters. Does anyone know the rules about what should be included when calculating height. In fact for all I know my B674 is above 3 meters on its own. It makes a difference as Class 3 or whatever it was was quite a bit more expensive.

I am... my Sat-nav never takes me on a toll road..... think it may be broken...🤔

😉
Same here but i am never in a hurry..People with limited holidays find them very time saving,,Much prefer to see the towns and villages on the quieter routes..BUSBY.

I think it is the actual height of the body, any add ons sat dish etc; over this do not count, may be an exception to a roof box

I was always under the impression that things like antennas and satellite dishes were not included in the height calculation.
it should be the height of the vehicle itself.

Richard.

Thanks again for all the very useful information

The other posts? Let's just say ...... .. ...!

My van 2.9m but has sat dome, caught me as class 3 last week - unmanned toll booth - just paid up

I usually check the toll and no toll routes in advance on a long run to see if there is any worthwhile benefit. Generally the toll roads use more fuel because of the higher speeds and often the mileage may be greater. An example, my next trip from Carcassone to near Beziers, the toll road saves 8 minutes. Im not in that much of a hurry.

We did St Tropez to Calais in November 2017 . Class 2 all the way ( 4 ton tag axle) 130 euros.

Remember coming off a toll Mway (? Clermont Ferrand) and the slip road having an automated pay booth, being clueless how much it would be I duly entered cc in slot and paid, then a few minutes later when we were safely back on the road towards Boussac, saying to Pete, Oh the barstewards, they've only charged us the wrong Class! Didn't you look, blah blah blah etc and let him have a rant. Then said Yeah, defo the wrong class, they charged us Class 1 !

It is literally the ONLY time that's ever happened. I couldn't care less about the queue behind me

We have a 5ton tag axle motorhome and mostly get charged class 2 at tolls in France. On the odd occasion we have been charged class 3 we press the intercom button and say ‘c'est un camping-car s'il vous plait’ and they drop it back to class 2,which is a lot cheaper.

You re doing really well then because strictly speaking 3 axles is class 4.

Class 2 is under 3500kgs and less than 3 metres, but most camping cars can get away with it by pressing the button.

For those that dont know many french maps show toll motorway s in different colours, the best one IMO is the blue Michelin grands intinaires about £7 from amazon
