Hi Funsters,

After reading reviews on here regards awnings, we are looking at ordering a quest pop up, but are unsure which to go for.

Cheaper by miles than a Fiamma wind out, and must be lighter to carry as well as any negative effects on aerodynamics.
We did have a Fiamma on the old Bessacarr, and paid fortunes, along with zip on sides, but rarely used them to be honest.

We are looking at either the quest 6 sided but not sure if it’s too wide at 11 feet, especially if pulling onto a site or our other alternative is the 4+4, 8 foot wide by 16 foot long.

The latter is on offer at the minute at just £189 which is cheaper than any other size I’ve seen. We’re not sure if the 4 would be large enough, as we can’t for the life of it, find anywhere with any in a showroom to see in the flesh.

Are these pop ups allowed on sites? Or are they reserved for wilding mainly?

Any advice please would be gratefully received.

Cheers everyone.

Yes pop up allowed on most sites. We have one and for the 2 of us it is fine. If you’re into bigger parties then the 6 side model is bigger.

Cheers Ivory, there will be 4 of us and 2 dogs on occasion. So this is why we are considering either the 6, or the thinner but longer 4+4.
It would be nice to see them in the flesh so to speak so we could get a proper gauge.

We aren’t sure if the 6 would be too wide for some sites or not, set up next to the van.

Big thumbs up for the 4+4. I have had for for over a year now..
Just as you say, the hexagonal ones are good and we used to have that but realised that on some pitches / rallies that width may be restricted. So 4+4 was ideal for us, it actually fold up just a bit shorter than the hexagonal one.
£189, ideal world I think plus you can get deals on the sides. NOTE You must get the correct sides the standard ones for the square one do not fit !!!

The six sided one is very big when erected so needs a large pitch, and is also quite long when packed, we have one but it is used on our large permanent pitch in Portugal.

Personally I would say they are too large for touring both when erected and packed, I don't know the packed size of the 4x4 but obviously it will be smaller.

Thanks Tonka,
Yes it’s Ideal World where we’ve seen them at 189 quid.
Thanks for the advice re the sides. I would have never heard the last of it if I’d bought the wrong ones.(y)

Thanks for that matamoros. Unfortunately it’s only the 4, we are looking for a 4+4.

Tonka, I don’t suppose you have a link to the correct sides for the 4+4 do you? Mr Google is throwing all sorts up.

Cheers Tonka.

I’d not even thought about the shows. Just wondering if there will be anything at the NEC in October?

We bought the 4+4 Quest from Ideal World for £189. Unfortunately one of the roof poles was broken when we unpacked it, and this had made e small holes in the roof. They accepted a return but only after several phone calls, for which we were charged 13p per minute. They cannot replace ( as they have no stock) but have promised a refund. I also had to repack it in a new cardboard box and take it to Asda to return it. I have now found a replacement for £224 from another supplier a2zcamping.co.uk

Take a look at Tonka reply a little further up the page. You can get one from camper it’s for £199 including the side walls

That’s a bummer! I’ve already ordered it for £224. But I already have the sides as I ordered them from somewhere else for the original one I bought. I did a thorough google search so surprised I didn’t see the same offer as tonka . Never mind, too late to cancel

We recently got a mark 2 version (2018 green) with roof side flaps, it was up for £119.99 but hubby made an offer of £105 which was accepted and we got 20% off that using an Ebay code. It is a 'faulty' one supposedly with holes in the roof but the only thing we've managed to find is one 5mm cut in the roof about 20cm from the centre which will be easily patched with a tent repair kit which we already have. We thought it might be an ex-display model but it is absolutely brand new so the cut must have been done when it was originally made.

Very pleased with it and I've been making some sides out of an old gazebo tent thing we had ... they've been a bit of a s*d though as my flipping sewing machine was playing up yet again (something to do with the thread tension which I'll have to investigate) and the gazebo ends having a slight 'angle' on them so I had to splice in some material to flatten it, but I've done them now. Rather than 4 separate ones I made 2 large ones that cover 2 sides at a time and overlap each other so we won't get any draughts along the edge of the sides as you can with the original ones (which just attach with odd bits of Velcro). I haven't been able to try them since I finished though as its been hissing it down! If I decide that they would have been better as 4 separate ones it won't take much to cut them down, hem and put Velcro tabs on.

Oh, a word of warning DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LEAVE THE PULL HANDLE RING NUTS OFF WHEN PUTTING IT AWAY! We removed them whilst I fitted the material and marked where to put the holes in the sides (for the ring nuts), when I carried the material in to start making the screens hubby put the screen house away ... you've guessed it ... without putting the ring nuts back on ... when we came to put it up again of course it was a right ruddy mess as the screen was no longer attached to the sides frames!

We spent ages trying to get them back on to no avail trying it hubby's way first (gotta let him 'think' he knows best sometimes!) ... when we did it my way it only took 2 minutes! :whistle2:

However they do a price match guarantee, so I’ve emailed them and asked for the difference back. I’ll let you know when I get a response!

A2zcamping responded to my request saying that they could not match the £199 plus £75 worth of side screens but offered to cancel my order and give a full refund. I declined because I think it was my fault that I didn’t see tonka ’s offer first. The new one was delivered yesterday and I plan a test erection in the garden later today, to make sure it is all in good working order.

We are currently travelling with the Quest 4. So far crossing France, Italy, Slovenia and now in Croatia.

I think for many campsites the larger one may be too big. We are using campsites usually listed in the ACSI books, which are often 3 or 4 stars, but even so, the pitches can be a bit small for a very large gazebo. Even in this low season we have found very busy campsites (as very few are still open). In high season must be worse.

Bad decision. This one had holes in the roof too. Only 4 and only about 3mm. It’s being collected Tuesday

We have had the normal 4 Quest for a few years now and very pleased with it but if I was buying a new one now without a doubt I would get the latest version the Quest 4 x4
Seen a few of them and they are worth the difference.
