We're looking to downsize from a coachbuilt but can't find a make of PVC (so far) that is fitted with the above. The ones we fancy all seem to have compressor fridges and we're worried that we would have to use EHU most of the time so as not to drain the batteries. We were hoping for more freedom with a smaller van to do a bit of wild camping use more aires etc. Any advice on makes of vans please.

Some of the Rapido ones have 3 way.

I have noticed that nearly all of the new (2020 versions) have gone to compressor style fridges, and I think it's so they don't have to cut the vents in the side of the van's.
Our 2008 pvc has got a 3 way installed and with gaslow refillable it's great, but having had a compressor fridge in my old vw, with solar, I'd look at it for a new van

Our Pilote v600g has a 3 way fridge, one of the reasons we chose it over a knaus boxstar. 😁 Bob.

Ps Just looked at new one's looks like they no longer fit 3 way, ours is 2017 .
Probably a lot easier and cheaper for them. 😁

To give you a rough idea of battery usage off grid with a compressor fridge (ok, very rough as I've only got the standard voltage state monitor to go by as I haven't got a proper battery monitor).

I've done a couple of 3 day off grid trips (3 full days, 2 nights).

200amp batteries, 120w solar, massive 152litre compressor fridge. Probably only other discharge would be lights and recharging of phones, iPads, watches and mozzie swatter light.

First trip out, sunny all the time, voltage didn't drop below 12.7 the whole time.

Second trip out, overcast the whole time, by day 3 the voltage dropped to 12.5 when the compressor fridge ran, but went back up to 12.7 when it finished its cycle.

We were static the whole time, so no extra charge being put in other than solar, and this will have been minimal on the second trip.

The test will be the cooler months when we need to run the blown air heating, but generally we're not static for 3 days, moving on every day or two, so this will put a bit of charge in.

Thanks everyone for your help. It seems that it's the newer models that we have been looking at are the ones with the compressors, and the ones we can't afford:rolleyes:. Having just had another look at the earlier Warwick XLsl which we quite fancy, and reading the blurb properly this time, they do have the three way fridge so all may be well!!

I'm building mine for off-grid and went straight for compressor. A combination of solar panels and a B2B charger will keep a compressor fridge going indefinitely. The only thing it can't do it sitting still for weeks in winter with no EHU.
