Hi Folks,

I had an issue with the Project 2000 electric step earlier, it has resulted in the gear wheel shattering!

20220928_092650.jpg

Whilst I could order a new step unit at stupid money, I'd be keen to see if I can get a replacement gear and fix it. At best, perhaps a replacement motor unit. I've had a scour around and found a few suppliers for new steps but have not had much luck in identifying a supplier for a replacement gear or motor unit.

I wonder if anyone has been here before and can advise where to go for spares or if you have a step or motor (working or otherwise) you'd be happy to part with.

I'll need to get some measurements and details off the motor housing in the next few days but for now and as ever, thank you for your consideration and help.

:thanks3:

Was discussed recently on another thread about motor replacement

Find your motor number, could be on the side casing, and Google the number, you hopefully should find a replacement, mine was something like a rear door window motor from a Mazda

Project 2000 in-out, like This. I've since found this Replacement Motor and I'll be contacting them to check it fits.

However, £180 odd for a new motor or £250 odd for a new step is steep (no pun intended) when I could perhaps get a new gear-wheel for a tenner or so...?

I should add, bar the shattered gear wheel, everything works as it should including the motor and I can use the step manually.

For that kind of money I'd be looking at different options!

It looks like a standard wiper motor to me, had a quick Google and this looks similar, the wiring will be different due to the self parking and multiple speeds but that is easily overcome.

It's certainly worth a try

Depending a bit on your skill etc you could try https://www.bearingshopuk.co.uk/couplings-gears/metric-spur-gears/

you need to know the Outside diameter of the gear and the number of teeth. The tricky bit is getting the hub to fit but I believe they can machine the hub to your spec. I used them for a toothed belt and pulleys for a project and the stuff was top quality.

You might find a local hobbyist or machine shop who could machine the hub - or even a local Men's Shed depending on how the gear is keyed to the shaft.

That gearwheel in the link looks to have about twice as many teeth as your broken one ?

I have just had to wait 18 weeks for my drivers door project 2000 cassette step to be repaired as when the van went for service someone forced the step in as they could not get it to go in with the switch that operates the habitation door, little did they know that there is no switch for this step as it is automatic. However they insisted in repairing it hence the long wait apparently spares are a nightmare and when they did arrive in the UK it took two weeks to clear customs.
finally got it replaced this week😊

After much research and taking apart of the original, it seems the only recourse I have is to order a new motor. Most of the units I've found do not seem to have the right connections, however, THIS one does; so it's on order, and fingers crossed it's a direct replacement 🤞

There is a Funster on here who has a 3D printer and has made a number of items for m/h's, cannot remember his name but perhaps if you put it in 'search' you might find him or someone might know?
Sorry cannot help further.

I bought a motor for the step on my Grand duca at around 54 £ off amazon. there should be a name or numbers on it.

This is the beast.

Sadly, all the ones I've seen in the boot-lid, and window-wiper range do not have the correct spline, in fact, some of the Project 2000 described units don't as I suspect they are for a different step.

Have you resolved the issue that lead to it breaking in the first place ?
We had a low battery situation followed by a loss of 12v that led to the step sticking halfway out, I had to manually push it back in and suspect that is what broke it although it is supposed to be able to cope with being moved manually. Perhaps it was on the way out anyway...

Thanks, a saw that too. It's got too many teeth I think and at £110.00 it's not going to happen also, ES Hartley is currently not trading.
Just a thought I know they took a while to get it but Adams Morey Redbridge motorhome dept were able to get the plastic cogs for mine it might be worth giving them a call?
