Yesterday we were at Morella. Noticed a few processionary caterpillar nests in the trees at the Aire so kept our dog Nix well clear. In the afternoon we visited the castle (which incidentally is free on Tuesdays in winter after 2pm - a nice bonus). Surprised to find processionary caterpillars on the march well within the castle inner wall when there were no pine trees around. o_O Looking down over the castle ramparts we saw loads of caterpillar nests in the trees a good way down, so presumably some caterpillars had got blown upwards. Just to make others aware that the little b*ggers can occur where you might not expect them.

Did you inform the ticket office ?
I understand they are often quite keen in Spain to use an insecticide on them.

No, we didn’t think of that. But looking down from the ramparts (on the side where there is a school and/or sports ground) there must have been hundreds of caterpillar nests in the trees there which would have been very obvious from that direction.

We saw them on the road just outside valenciacamping and further south and inland at El Palomar.
Been staying on the coast to try and avoid them but will be inland north of Girona tomorrow at Cantallops. Has anyone seen any up that way.
