Hi all, thoughts please on a portable freezer, we have a Burstner A class with the garage under the bed, have been thinking about one but as it will be in the garage right under my head at night. Just wondered about the noise level. Although our van is new the size of the freezer compartment is very small compared to our last van. We will have 440 watts of solar and 2 100 amp lithium batteries so should cope with a few days wild camping when allowed. And subject to where we are a small Genny if we have to. Please do not start the anti Genny brigade. We are very considerate of other campers and act accordingly.

We take a 3 way camping fridge with us, not sure if they do camping freezer if they do it absorption so no noise, but can't be used on gas in the garage.

Thank you for your prompt reply, we are after a freezer only as the fridge in our van is large its just the freezer unit is so small. Having had a Thetford in our last van which had a good size one, was disappointed in the dometic in our new van. It seems 7 years later to be a backward step/

We bought the Mobicool FR40 compressor coolbox a few years ago to use in Benidorm as a freezer. The lowest setting is -10°c and in a warm climate the compressor has to run continuously to hold -10. I set it to -5 and was great for short term storage of pre frozen food.

Noise wise, the condenser fan makes the most noise, it's a 12v axial computer fan so you hear it but soon get used to it, even in the same room. Can't hear the compressor at all.

Bought ours from SVB, it was the cheapest at the time at about £250 which is great for a compressor fridge.

PS: it runs at 2.5 to 3 amps at 12v depending on what temperature it is inside.

I have a waeco freezer, you can set the temperature so can use as a fridge, it has a small fan have used it in my work van but not yet in the motorhome but it is under the bed ready, dont remember it being noisy so i think it will be ok under the bed, you could try putting something with a small fan under your bed and see what noise levels are like,a desk top computer tower or maybe a small cooling fan

Thanks both for the heads up, been looking for a freezer and just purchased a Mobicool MCF40 compressor cool box for £275 delivered.

Thanks both.

Just received the Mobicool FR40 compressor coolbox and it’s a nice bit of kit and yes gets to -10 quick.

Thanks OP for heads up on a cooler box.

How long from order to delivery?

Ours didn't take long 2 or 3 days from SVB iirc
Great off in a week so would be great to have by then. Wife has insisted fridge in van must have some food in it this year.
Looked at one today but £400 was steep.
£270-280 is much easier to justify.

Just campers do a 45L freezer capable to -18C at 350 delivered over two days. I got one, it has eco mode, variable speed compressor and barely eats power once cool. I run mine at -10C and very happy compared to mobicool.
