Hi all - I am in a pickle . A 2 fold proverbial one ...

Problem 1.

I turned the gas on and there was a hissing noise from inside the gas storage housing. I turned the gas off straight away and noticed a brown gas smelling liquid leaking from the regulator . I have taken the regulator off and the same liquid was pouring out of it. It was also in the copper piping leading from the regulator. I can't cook !!!

Problem 2.
Prior to driving to France 3 days ago I had a new engine battery and 2x leisure batteries installed. They have been tested yet we cannot used plug sockets and the fridge won't stay on - lights , water pump etc work.

Sorry to be a pain but I really need some help asap

Thank you

Kes

Not sure... I've heard that you can get residual oil build up from gas cylinders???

Pump and lights will work straight from 12v, so the batteries have at least some charge.

When you say sockets, do you mean 240v sockets? So I assume you have an inverter? If not, the 240v sockets will only work when you are on an EHU (electric hook up). If you have an inverter... is it switched on? Fuse?

If it's a 3-way fridge, it'll have a gas mode. The '3 ways' for these are i)cab battery when driving, ii) electric hook-up and iii)gas. They DON'T work from the leisure batteries. If it's a 2-way fridge (no gas mode) then it should work from the leisure battery.

Oh... also, Welcome!

Problem 1.... You need a new regulator and a gas engineer to renew or clean out the pipework.
Problem 2.......turn the fridge to gas.... It only works on 12v when the engine is running.
3 pin sockets only work on mains electric, not 12v

Thank you all. I guess I have to learn somewhere. Feel v v stupid tbh.
So - I need to sort gas situ and that will sort the fridge problem as it is a 3 way.
We are connected to a 10 amp Electric hook up but the sockets don't work still . Arghhhhhh it's 47 degrees here today and I need a fan on before I spontaneously combust

Is the mains switch in the van set to 'on'? Does the RCD need reset?

Can you try another hook up point and/or another lead? The electricity is turned on at your control panel is it? (sorry if this sounds patronising).

Have you checked the RCD on the van. If the fridge won't work on electric and the 240v sockets don't work then either

1 the post you are plugged into has no power
2 The internal RCD has tripped
3 Your hook up cable is faulty.

No mention of being on hookup and the way this reads, it isn't on H/U

They have been tested [batteries] yet we cannot used plug sockets and the fridge won't stay on - lights , water pump etc work.

If he's not on hook up then sockets won't work unless he has an inverter. No mention of that either.

Pipes are being cleaned as we speak by the owner of the campsite ... Another person looking at me like I am a complete dic*head . Getting used to that today !!!
Fuse gone in the electric unit on site now fixed so have sockets ....
What a palarva but than you all so so so much for guiding me in the right direction .

Never feel stupid. It’s all a learning experience, and everyone starts somewhere.

Have you checked the power/sockets are turned on at your control panel? Perhaps the circuit has tripped on the consumer unit?

Hope all fixed soon, and you’re back to enjoying the van quickly.

EDIT - just seen your post about fuse. Good stuff.

Incidentally, we bought some cheap 12v/USB fans from John Lewis. They’re great for when not on hook up and surprisingly beefy in airflow.

Great that your getting sorted. Now sit back relax and get something cold and refreshing out of that cold fridge.

You still need a new regulator as that is full of oil.
Could be dangerous to use it if it works at all.

3 way fridge. . Stick it on mains electric until you get the gas regulator sorted.
