Petition: Negotiate more favorable post-transition travel rules for U.K. citizens

Is there a link to the actual detail?
the link is too vague and doesn’t say anything about increasing the 90 days.

how about a petition to ban speed limits or tattoos

Sure they will......make the UK a special case because motorhomers want to go on a jolly,
There are more Third Countries than the UK...
Its a Schengen Ruling not EU.....the UK were never in Schengen whilst in the EU...so why make provisions now...

Why would anyone imagine that there would be "special consideration" given, maybe this has gone unnoticed but the EU are not very happy, some one poured water on their party .. and now ... wants to be invited in with special privileges.

I am guessing the answer will be a very big NO

We left. We now control our borders. The EU controls their borders. As far as I know the Schengen rules have not changed since before we voted and I can’t see any reason why they would want to change them now for a Country that they are a little bit cross with.

The best petition for this was in 2016 .

A petition to the uk government has absolutely zero chance of making any changes in shengen.

Its easier to have an input to club rules while part of the club

I'm afraid any partition aimed at the UK gov will be an absolute waste of time, as has been already mentioned its an EU ruling/law.
We will all have to "suck it up" and adjust our travel plans accordingly.(y)

GarryP does this mean we won't get any sympathy from Greece?

More effective to lobby individual country's tourism ministers.
I'm presuming people are only increasing the limits in a minority of the 27 EU States (ok Shengen is a few less)

There was an earlier (weeks ago?) thread on this petition and it got short shrift back then.

Perhaps rather than yet another no hope petition, why not do some proper research into actually how many are adversely affected by the 90/180 ruling?
I'm fairly certain that even in the motorhome/caravan community, it won't be many, let alone in the greater population.

Maybe you could interest one of the magazines to get involved.

In normal (none covid) times most of the people I work with (including myself) would be adversely effected.

After covid passes we will all need to deal with this issue, along with restrictions on vehicles over 2.5t carrying goods into the EU, but most people will not be effected Unless they have property in the EU and haven’t already applied for citizenship or visas.

I can see that sometime down the road, when Brexit has settled down somewhat and with new people leading the UK and the EU, that some deal might/could be struck and maybe there could be a Homeowner Visa that allows longer stays of up to say six months. It would be easy to prove you are paying rates on a house in France or Portugal etc.

How about a Motorhome Owners Visa? Not a chance, get used to 90/180 or emigrate. '\

Good luck with this. Sisyphus come to mind!

Good question!
I had to read the first post a couple of times (or slower and not speed read!) 'cause I immediately thought what the h*ll's a sexually transmitted disease got to do with staying longer in the EU?:whistle2::doh:

C'mon, start the list of "so did I's".

Agree Jim, but unfortunately not everyone has come to terms with being restricted...I don't think some long term visitors to Europe realise that they would have had more freedom if they took up residence...for example....they have freedom within their adopted country, no 90/180, they would have been allowed entry into another Schengen country for up to 90/180 day and up to 6 months visiting the UK for those who are in their first 5 years of residencia..after then more flexibility..
I know it cannot be achieved by everyone, but many who are retired could have done it if they thought they couldn't manage restrictions...bit late now....but your final line get used to the 90/180 or emigrate...applies.

I is up to each country to decide visa,s not the eu.Spain with its massive tourism industry ought to do so .

Yes i had to read it twice too

The 90/180 rule does not affect the biggest part of their tourism industry, they will be happy to get the package holiday makers who splash all their money in 2 weeks. The easier way to make up for the loss of a few UK long stay motorhomes will be to market the extra space to German and Swedish motorhomers who can stay as long as they like.

The rules are in place for Third Countries...why make a breakaway country a special case.....if they did so other Third Countries would also want the same...
The UK has only recently become a Third Country.....by their own Democratic way....vote to leave with a Withdrawal Agreement...why change now just a few months down the line, just to satisfy a very small minority of motorhomers....a Total ban on UK visitors would have an impact in Spain, just as Covid is currently doing....but a restriction on one nation is not.....all other nationals are free the come....Tourism is a means to generate money for the Spanish economy....they ain't bothered one jot who's money it is....German, French, Scandinavians or Dutch....they are still coming....as will the fortnightly big spending public.....
Spain is going to feel a bigger hit from the lack of exportation of Fruit and Veg more than the few motorhomers who cannot come on there self contained winter holiday.
