Just a query but has anyone recently renewed their passport, if so how long did it take? Mine is due to expire in November, but it was renewed last time in August, I’m aware that since we left the EU they’re only giving us 10 years and not the extra months added on by our government.
SWMBO wants to go on a cruise in April I’ve read that some countries in the EU state your passport must have 6 months left, others state 3. Rather than risk it I’d sooner renew it now.

Yvette renewed her passport last month and including them rejecting the first photo sent and us retaking an acceptable photo for their online system, it was just over a week from starting the process online to Yvette's new passport dropping through the letterbox.

Be aware that any time left on your old passport is NOT carried over onto your new passport, so don't renew say 6 months early as you will lose the 6 months.

I expect renewal time will get longer as people start to think about holidays and realise they need a new passport.

Awaiting ours to return.
Sent off on 28th January via website application and got a notification they had received the actual passport on 9th February.

Did it on line last November about two weeks from application to passport using a digital picture booth (Max Spielman) at our local Tesco's which okayed the pictures before they were sent

I renewed my expired passport last year. Old passwport had to be sent to Glasgow, right in the middle of the Cop26 thingy. Got stuck in the postal system as no doubt office was closed. within 3 days of office re-opening new passport was singing it's way to me.

For photos use one of the kiosks by post offices / supermarkets, you get a code, include that online and they can tell you in the application process if it meets their standards.

Ours are in the system now, done last week.
I sent both passports Royal Mail signed for, mine arrived and signed for next day and Mandy’s hasn’t been signed for yet🤬, strangely we did them a day apart and mine went to Corby and hers went to Peterborough.

Wife applied for hers last week, I'll let you know when the new one arrives.

Thanks for the replies, I'll be sorting it out today. Only fly in the ointment is I complete on my house next week and will be living in the MH until the sale goes through on the new one. I'll have to get it sent to the MIL in Devon and pick it up.

I did that and the photos were still rejected. My son took the one that was approved - in our hall with a white sheet as a back drop.

The photo thing appears to be a bit of a lottery - my daughter-in-law had photo rejected and reapplied with the same photo and it went through.

Ours back within a week, when we renewed last year. The digital picture attempt we tried was unsuccessful because of some shadow shown. Decided to use Max Spielman photographer in Tesco's.

I did mine on line, my wife took my photo using my 'phone. I had the new passport in a matter of days, although it took several weeks to get the old cancelled one back.
Just one word of advice, read the guidelines for taking the photo carefully and follow them to the letter.

My sister and BIL both applied online to restart their passports as they ran out 2020. for some strange reason, his application went to Glasgow whilst sisters went to Peterborough (they live in Nottingham). He then had a missive asking for his paperwork for change of name (he had entered Chris not Christopher) so his was delayed but sister received hers within the month.
Just goes to show you need to be meticulous when filling in forms. (y) (y)
We have yet to request our which are now 2 years out of date.

Renewed mine late January, used Max Spielman for images, no problems took about a fortnight.
Do think it will slow down as people realise their passport is running out under the new ruling.

As a merchant seafarer I carry two passports, (for travel while visas are being processed) and last renewed a full one (usually I fill one in 3 to 4 years) in Sept last year, and from sent time to return time was 9 days.
I hope its still that quick
Enjoy your holidays

Renewed online in January as going away in Feb 2020, sent in driving licence info in which they accepted photo. Back within 10 days. Plus 3 additional lost months. The old passport came later.
The new passport came by courier

There’s a website called “passport waiting time.co.uk” which gives you the average CURRENT awaiting time for renewal.
It’s crowdfunded but free. When you get your passport back, you put in the dates, and it’s updated every few days. Really quite accurate - within a couple of days - it changes according to how soon it is till holiday time.

I renewed mine a few weeks ago at the Post Office, they did everything, took 5min, excellent service and returned in a week, no problems!

I sent my old passport and from it being signed for and them saying they had received it took 9 days ( Corby office)

Wife's passport arrived yesterday 28th Feb, she applied on 7th Feb.

If you apply for the renewal online do you still need to send away your old passport whilst awaiting a new one that is not clear?

Yes you do, they tell you to do it , I think it was at the end after they’d accepted your application. It’s at your expense . From memory and it was 3 years ago I think I did send mine recorded delivery or registered post, whichever one is the more secure one. They then snip a corner off and send it back.
