I'm sure there has been a thread on this but not sure where.

Will I have to buy another sink? The surface of it (shower room) is completely ruined with toothpaste, soap, cleaning fluid :( . If I do have to buy a new one (it a sort of silver grey plastic/enamel) can I buy a stainless steel one?

Any advice appreciated to keep cost down.

I know a fellow motorhomer whose white sink looked slightly yellow, so he brought an aerosol can of pasticotes brilliant white paint, quick rub down with fine paper and sprayed it himself, that was 3 years ago, still looks good

Is this the one please?

If be inclined to use a primer first.
Or there are companies that do it but at a cost do it ain't gonna be cheap. Can't find or remember names though now (n)

Thank you .. I'll look for it in b and q so I can read the instructions .. prep etc .. and if they have another colour from white. (y)

What cleaning fluids Joy, it only needs a bit of hot clean soapy water not Ajax and Domestos.
And imagine what the toothpaste is doing to your pearly whites.

Other people no doubt will come up with different suggestions, so ours is.....

Fill the sink up with water and pop about 6/7 in. Leave it over night, it worked a treat for us.
If you are going to paint it then it does need priming but please do not take offence when I suggest you find someone that can spray properly.

getting the plastic properly clean is important, as any tiny bit of soap residue will ruin the paint job. It's best to take out the sink, remove the tap and drain. Clean it thoroughly then prep it with a scotch pad kitchen scourer and wipe it clean with alcohol. Then place the sink on some cardboard and carefully spray it. 2 or 3 light coats will give best results

They used to do silver, I did a wicker bedside cabinet top with that, over 20 years ago, is in need of a redo though

much cheaper than plastikote is car hubcap spray paint. It's designed for plastic and can take a load of abuse. best of all it's cheap

Be careful if you are sensitive to chemicals if using the Plastikote stuff, I used it once and it stank the house out for days, it was awful, gave me dreadful headaches, they may have changed the formula since then.

Would try the Tesco stuff mentioned or some of that clothes whitening powder that does not contain bleach, I get the one from Lidl, it is excellent for removing stains from plastic.

Thank you everyone.

Yep. It isn't mucky . Just the opposite ..I've scrubbed it too hard and removed the top surface ..

I think you all brilliant for your help.

Think I may ask the garage guy who did van bodywork .. as taking sink out etc might be beyond my capabilities.
