Ours is 17 years old too and cooks OK, just takes longer than the oven at home. Don't actually use it very much. I tend to reheat meals I've cooked at home on the hob and once the meals I've taken with us have gone try to buy things that can be cooked/reheated on the hob; or in the Remoska if we have EHU.

The Thetford oven in our motorhome is better than the one in the house. It has been used to help with cooking Christmas dinner to speed up the roasting.
If youā€™re Smev is compatible size wise and within youā€™re budget I would swap it for a Thetford.

Mines ok cooks everything. In the old van the high level oven over the fridge worked just as well. Me thinks its the chefs inability to adapt to the oven rather than the oven itself.

Our Smev oven was mainly used when we arrived late on site. We'd take the customary pizza out of the fridge door, try to spread the toppings more evenly and then re-squash it while squeezing it in the oven. Remember to double the cooking time while re-lighting several times while it warmed up. But that was OK, because I'd crack a beer and we'd set the van up. It was kind of useful to have occasionally, but I probably would have lived without.

You need a Thetford Spinflo oven and grill. Far more powerful.

Hi

are they that much better?

We used to have a double Smell in the our old Frankia, was brilliant and we loved the Rotisserie

Our smev takes about 10-15 minutes longer than a normal oven once you work out what the numbers on the dial relate to temp wise
Only problem I have had was when it wouldn't light because a drunk person had not opened the lid far enough šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Ours takes ages, generally put the oven on a long time before I need it to make sure it as temperature, which is annoying on a hot day. :p

Mrskevenh reports that our Thetford Caprice oven (gas) is isnā€™t noticeably slower than the house oven (electric).
I mention fuel types if it helps compare experiences. (y)

And rather than baking fresh ingredients, our usage is reheating pasties & pies.

Thetford oven is pretty good. Obviously not as good as a full size oven and no fan so have to turn food round half way through but i use it all the time. Even bake sourdough bread in there.

For the first time, we have a MH without a gas oven. Iā€™m not missing the hit and miss aspect or the escaping heat!

I have an air fryer and a Remoska, plus three gas rings. For outside I have a Cadac.
