Thought I’d start a post about our trip in the hope it helps others visiting the area, also feel free to give tips and must do’s or see’s.
Left Dumfries Friday mid morning and stopped off to pick up our EBike at Carlisle as they where in for their 6 weeks service, then off to Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam. We really enjoy this crossing as it’s part of our holiday, that might change though as this is the second time this year and it’s been 11am before we’re on the road due to inept passport control.
Anyway yesterday was a damp day with torrential rain for a good few hours so driving was ideal, we reached the lovely little village of Saulx. They have a 4 van Aire with all facilities including ehu for €5 which is collected about 7pm (card payment accepted), village has small shop, bar, restaurants and takeaway, we had a lovely pizza for €10 and did our bit for the community 😂

After a quiet night, well until the bells sounded at 6:30 am, we headed of in the direction of Avignon. We decided to take toll which cost €50 from Besacon to Orange as class 2. We’re now parked for the night in a lovely Vineyard Aire at Chusclan, it’s free with water and WC, very busy but still loads of space and room for large units as we have a few Morellos in and one with a trailer. It has individual pitches down one side with the rest of the area just open space.
Just had someone round selling local goats cheese and fruit.

Loads of walking and cycling signs around, we’re off to Avignon tomorrow but might come back here.

After a good night sleep we headed off on an epic journey of 25 miles to Avignon, we decided to stay at the campsite on the edge of town for convenience. It’s €18 a night without ehu and €22 with, now we have our lithium we’ve went without, that’s €8 back 😂😂

We had a leisurely walk round the city and visited the “Palace of Popes” well worth a visit, the city itself is stunning with some beautiful buildings and architecture. Stopped for a late lunch and had some beef tartare, they had the option of raw or fried, I opted for fried but I’d call it raw but it was very tasty.
Some random photos of the city, my beef tartare and Lorraine’s chicken Caesar salad.
Tomorrow we’re getting the bikes out to cycle along the riverbank.

We went a walk along the river last night just before bed and the city looks lovely in lights

We decided we would cycle along “the route Via Rhôna” to some surrounding villages today, as usual the path was well signposted. We visited the towns of Aramon and Theziers then back via Villenune Les Avignon, going to move on to Port du Gard tomorrow.

Lovely photos, bring back memories of our holiday there some time ago.
Orange, a little to the north is worth a visit too.

Oh this thread is so on my watch list.
Quite sure you have done the research and you know I ve been round there quite a bit if you want any hints, but have to double up on the Uzes aire, no electric there so a chance for your Lithiums to prove their worth. If you have Bosch batteries are you aware of the bosch recharge points ? They have added some since I last posted about them. https://press.provenceguide.com/50-bosch-ebike-charging-stations-in-vaucluse/ and https://www.provence-cycling.co.uk/ and https://www.bosch-ebike.com/en/serv...233760113|44.60285734596781|5.369975999385113

Not sure where you're heading but Uzes is well worth visiting with a free aire at a vineyard very centrally situated.
We have just been in Uzes based on Tigertom’s recommendation. Great aire at Domaine Saint Firmin. 5 minutes walk to centre. Fantastic market on Saturday. Really lovely town with lots of good restaurants. Very good cheap wine at the aire. Thanks Tom. Love to Elizabeth.

We happen to be at Uzes now, we move on Friday to Gruisson on Friday......huitre and moules.
Just remembered you're not allowed to indulge, well there's lots of cheeses to discover 🧀.
Where are you two now?

It’s a lovely area.

We spent a week in a villa in August about 20km from Avignon. The area was as busy as hell then though but I bet it’s great now.

We just couldn’t park anywhere which gets a bit wearing after a while!

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
we are on a campsite in Sommiers - its a really nice site but very basic, but clean which is the most important. its two minutes from the town which is well worth a stroll around - lots of cafes/restaurants

there used to be a free aire right outside the campsite, but its now closed and motorhomes are banned ! the campsite was originally a municipal site, but was bought a couple of years ago and is now run as a private site.

sommiers is part of the 'green route' aswell !

Thanks for the reply, yes it was one of your threads that made us want to visit this area. We might stop of at Uzès tomorrow or possibly the campsite just outside as it has a pool and forecast is to be warm tomorrow, well for us Scots anyway 😂😂.
We have Haibike that use Yamaha so no joy with the charging points, we charged Lorraine’s bike yesterday after our cycle and our battery leisure battery dropped to 87% and we charged mine on the drive to Pont du Gard this morning and our leisure battery was 100% full by the time we got here.
I’ve had a look on Komoot and see a few places to cycle round here, I’ll head out on my road bike tomorrow then we’ll both go on EBikes on Friday.

We are thinking of there or a local campsite tomorrow as Lorraine wants a day of sitting in the sun, is that allowed or are they strict. Also is it busy as I see some reviews say they are crammed in.

Up early this morning for a walk round Avignon and the “Pont d’Avignon” before our long drive of about 15 miles to “Pont du Gard” . Decided on a lazy day so a gentle walk to see the Aqueduct and boy is it wort the walk.

Take a look at mapy.cz app
Its the pink lines to follow and you can use it as a "sat nav" on your bike with no data being used and working off GPS.
We prefer it so much more than komoot.
Enjoy

So many choices down that way. We loved Uzes and also Sommieres - the Jazz festival at Junas is an added draw if visiting in the summer.

We got to the vinyard aire in Uzes at about 9am and got a place between the trees, as per my photo. You need to be early to get a good spot. And there was room to put out your chairs and get abit of sun(y)
