We spent three weeks in Shetland a few years ago during midsummer. Best time to go in our opinion, daylight for almost 24 hours. Plenty of camping spots but also some really nice community run campsites that are really worth visiting. Fuel prices are high so arrive with a full tank, it should last because you can't drive far in Shetland. If you are not familiar with single track roads please give way to locals.

I’d say a minimum of 1day per island but do you know how many islands there are? You’ll need a lot of days to cover them! :xrofl:

Never stop learning 😊
Agreeing with @WillH : so many people want to wild camp, but please consider staying at some of the lovely little community sites.

The islands are massively dependent upon tourism and an influx of motorhomes/campervans arriving on the islands with a full fridge and well stocked cupboards, and then staying for free on verges and parking areas, puts very little into the economy.

As above, we make a point of buying food locally wherever we go. The classic car show is great, very informal. The puffins are worth seeing as well, you get within a few feet of them although my favourites are the fulmars. Spent hours watching them. Seals, dolphins, whales, wildflowers in abundance.
