We lost all internet and email yesterday for some unknown reason but it's back today. We continued south on the motorway and then turned off and went through Tulle and ended up on an aire on a promontory at the Lac de Feyt which is an EDF lake where they have dammed part of the head of the Dordogne. It's attached to a campsite and 5€ per night

Hi @Abacist ,
How were the access roads to that aire ,as in the reviews it says quite narrow, as we had that one provisionally planned but then saw the review.

Clearly it's low season but it's only the last few miles that were narrow and we did not meet anything.

Just caught up with this thread and loving all the photos. We have great memories of Briare; the quiet aire (that was free), the walk along the impressive aqueduct, the little coffee house by the bridge with delightful staff, the outdoor market where we bought cherries that the vendor said had been picked from her trees early that morning, the elderly stallholder who sold us the most delicious marmalade. Happy days!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

We have moved on and spent the afternoon exploring Rocamadour, the village hanging to the valley cliff walls of a tributary of the Dordogne river. We are staying at the Chateau parking which is free but there are no services here but plenty of other motor homes.

Today we moved on to Sarlat to be ready for the market tomorrow but it turns out its food only tomorrow. Anyway we are here now and had a potter around the town this afternoon.

PS the bloody step packed up again in Souillac this morning so I had to crawl under the van on my beach mat, disconnect it and cable tie it up and back out of the way and revert to our manual metal step. Lots of French admiring the immediate and efficient fix carried out in the Leclerc car park

Just about every other shop is selling tins of goose and duck anything and everything you can imagine and also what is beyond your imagination! Confit, pate, foie gras with and without truffles, guizzards, legs, breasts et al. There must be millions of the things tucked away in barns out of sight as I've not seen one yet other than in bronze in the town!

Re posts 32-34

And still we have people who deride French Aires as “car parks “.

OK, some are, but many are like the one you posted.

You appear to be visiting some of our favourite watering holes.

Enjoy!:):france:

The details of the aire in Sarlat need updating! The book says 7€ for 24 hours and 15 € for 48 hours. When you turn left off the road ignore the exit immediately on your left as it is the EXIT. Continue for about 20 meters then turn left and the parking meter is at the corner on your left. Drive up the hill for about 50 meters then turn left and then left again to enter via the borne. Park up, then pay at the meter where you will find that 1 hour is free and then 23.30 hours costs 7 € but if you try to increase the time to 48 hours all you get is that 24 hours incurs a charge of 30 €. You have to enter your registration number to print a valid ticket so they have a record of your arrival time!

Car slopes but OK with ramps, road a bit noisy but will probably quieter down when we want to sleep. Dozy, selfish prats on the front row taking too much space by not echelon parking!

We intend to go to Perigieux tomorrow which has varied market and a nice aire. We understand that Issigeac, a medieval village also has a great market on Sunday's. Bergerac is further along the Dordogne and there are caves and other things to visit. Any suggestions @yodeli as this is your region?

If you like wines you have quite a few to taste. Bergerac to start with, and Montbazillac which has a very good white wine , we usually use it(to cook... very expensive!) for Christmas dinner. Cahors , which red wine is one of my favorite.
Marmande is well known for its Country Music Festival ... but you're not at the right period for that ... pity as very famous american people come each year!
On your way to Perigueux you have Montignac with the very famous "Grottes de Lascaux" .
In Brantôme you have a huge abbay and the town is by a river, never visited it but apparently the place is worth a visit.
You were not far from Padirac where you have "le gouffre (Chasm)de Padirac"

Here is a link I have put quite a few times on FUN to name a few places in my area . Don't forget to turn the sound on!
