Hello,
At Gatwick and hooked up, but electrics not working...
240 a.c. not working.
Also, should the leisure battery be charging when hooked up?
Or do I need a partic setting on power button for leisure battery to charge? A spare leisure battery will be ruined if I can't charge it now...help!
George

No 240V.
Faulty lead.
Circuit breaker tripped in MH.

If you haven't got a Volt Stick this is a good time to regret it and ask Santa.

Jo662....all 240v switches are on, just not working on hookup this time.
Stumped! Maybe I do need a volt stick!

JMaybe I do need a volt stick!

I would not leave home without one. Just so easy for the initial "is there voltage here".

After that I get out my multimeter, which will measure 240V but not as easily as a volt stick. You need a bit more knowledge for a multimeter of course, not for everyone.

Oh you'll never guess what I didn't do....plug in lead to MH and then TWIST!
On that note, repairs people are always busy and expensive here in sussex...where can I learn about the èlectrics in depth for my bessacarr mh? Is there a good site for the education ?

Fast and kind responses...is this site good for the 15 dosh?! George
You already saved well in excess of £15 by not having to get a sparky out to sort it.
Best £15 you'll ever spend.

Have you checked the trip on the bollard, some outlets after plugging in you have to turn the plug 90° to switch on.
Next step is try a different bollard.

Don't be offended by some replies, some members have an odd sense of humour but are Harmless, aren't you Brian. :xwink:
Some threads can get a bit heated but it's usually nipped in the bud before the boss steps in.

You might try Bessacar there quite smart people and it's rumoured they put a lot of need to know stuff in a kind of booklet called a manual. You might even find one for your fridge, heater, cooker etc. your not the first member who struggles with the basic's and no one will belittle you on here for not understanding how things work ? Welcome to Fun. Do you 'Wild Camp' by any chance.

As a relative newbie I can assure you that you are in THE BEST site for info. There is never a daft question, only daft answers and they come by the bucketload here.:xgrin:. (Believe me!)

Just trawl all the threads that interest you, search for threads that might answer your question and then ask away!

Every day is a school day. you are not the first and will not be the last. We have done the same.

Worth every penny. Ask a question and you get advice, some helpful and some not quite so much :)

Here and go to a MHF Rally you’ll have info overload before you can say wtf is wrong with my Motorhome!:xThumb:

Just lift the bonnet on your van (even if there is nothing wrong) and you will soon get a group of people come to offer advice. It's a good way to get to know people :)

They may try to take the pee just a little bit in a good-humoured sort of way :xgrin:. You are very definitely not the first to have forgotten the Twist. Last time I tried it was in 1959.

The first time I met one of the twist to turn on ehu posts it fooled me too. I think the only purpose of these lock in posts is so that if you forget to unplug you can drag the post with you when you leave. Not done so yet. Still trying to fathom why the CMC think this type of post is necessary, or even sensible.

Yes, it is. We always save much more than that every year on discounts, good advice, cheap meets etc. So good to see that you have paid up.

And this advice from Simon is good too when it comes to learning.

But many of the MHF rallies are miles away from Sussex though. But the good news is that we are organising a MHF Rally at Bodiam next year centred around the Kent and East Sussex Railway. Why not put your name down here, and get to meet some fellow funsters face to face (most of them don't bite!).

It’s an easy mistake and that twist has caught plenty out, I can remember a post on here some time ago where someone just thought their 240v sockets should just work on there own without plugging in...:Eeek:

I couldn't understand why my van battery was going flat, its on EHU outside my home...traced it down to the 13amp socket in my house which has an extension lead into which I connect the EHU cable to van.
The plug was not fully pressed into the socket :giggle:.. so very simple in the end..

I think that was someone in a hired van. Mind I've been on a cruise ship when a passenger asked the captain if the ship generated it's own electricity .......
