Off to Carcassonne on Monday

Hopefully it will be ok at this time of year, we went in June, it was so crowded we left the old town as quickly as possible. The crowds were so bad parents were holding children up in the air to avoid getting crushed. Always wanted to go back when it's not so busy.

We stayed in that aire a few days ago and there was plenty space.
When we left there were still 19 spaces showing as available.
Enjoy!

While in the area check out Lagrasse, if you’ve not been before. Lovely village, amazing old abbey, nice aire at 8 euros a night, parking under olive trees.

Watch where you eat.

Some of the restaurants inside the citadel are shite.

In our larder is a tin of cassoulet bought in Carcassonne in around 2008. I'll pluck up the courage to open it one day...!
I bought a couple, loved them but now do my own, guided by this recipe, I use sainsbury's toulouse sausages and ordinary ducks legs not the confit. Lovely on a cool rainy day watching the rain fall.

According to Chris all of France is shite, however we had a crap meal at a restuarant in Carcassonne, forgot the name. We do have our favourite though,we know the owners and indeed on one occassion with a days notice cooked SWMBO a special dish she fancied. I wont name it otherwise we might not get our favourite table if it gets too popular. ::bigsmile:

We are hoping it will be bit quiet after the weekend.

Any tips?

Dave starts a thread particularly about Carcassonne at 0700 on a Sat and by Mon 1800 he kills it off by saying he skipped the city and is in Spain.

What a W*nker.

Did you get lost?
Nope, Lorraine got badly bitten,

her ankle swelled up, struggling to walk. So little point going to Carcassonne, we will arrange a weekend there, flight, hotel etc..

We are here at the moment, it poured down last night, plan to get a lite further south today..

Plenty of of bitey things there at times, the restaurant is good. Best to have a menu lunchtime gets a bit pricy in the evening.

We are going to head back to France to get some decent weather we are at Altea at the moment.

Out of season restaurant keeps funny hours some days only open lunch/afternoon other days only evening we were there last October or November.

Get yer bikes & binoculars out and go and do some twitching.

Spain has been having the worst spring for a hundred years, we had thunder and rain yesterday and freezing only 18° yesterday. Hottest day we have had has only been 26° most days only about 22°, didn't come to Spain for English weather.

Forgot to ask how is Lorrain now? Have you dosed her up on antihistamines?

It's lovely over here at Port des Barques, west of Rochefort ... I'm brown and it's not from rust or muck! 😎

If you make a special trip of it I think you will be disappointed, a place to visit on route not worth going out of your way for.

We were disappointed, but , Lorraine couldn't walk very far. So little point..

Now looking for an overnight close to Valencia..

The first time we visited we walked up the hill in temperatures nudging 40 degrees. Not funny, and we were mighty glad to get back to our airconditioned boat moored in the basin!

In that case you are forgiven and you are not a W*nker - for missing Carcassonne anyway.
