I've never owned one, never had a need, so know very little about them other than you plug them in to check for possible faults ..

So can someone kindly advise on what to buy, I had a look on ebay but don't want to throw away money on something that isn't up to the job..

Do they come with full instructions.. and how to interpret the codes ?

Are the muppet proof ...

Yes it does - under the drivers dash about knee high. Most readers will list faults , some will allow you to clear them. You may get a fault code which will need looking up, saves a fortune if you know what the problem is before it goes for repair.

Most will probably read standard error codes but unlikely to do any thing specificaly Fiat, and may only give a number to search.
Typicaly the Software of choice is Multiecuscan or Alfaobd the only 2 diy priced product to read fiat.
Dear me look i what i found in the resources area

the1andonly. On the back of Jim's thread, can you recommend similar for a LHD 2006 3.0ltr Iveco Daily please, with the round 32/38 x pin OBD port?

Thanks,

Jock. :)

On that page gendan refers to two different products so i suspect Multiecuscan is not appropriate. but bell Gendan is the best advice i can give.

I bought a cheap 10-12 quid OBD 2 reader to use on my focus. It successfully identified and removed a warning light.
I've connected to my '03 2.8 jtd and it's recognized it, but never needed to do anything as I've had no warning lights on the motorhome thankfully.
I think what it will do is pretty basic stuff.
