since 2006 ( I think ! )
Went to the van yesterday only to find I had left the bloody radio on for the past 2 weeks !

The battery was VERY low but did manage to fire up the engine .. only just !

As soon as it started I saw a check engine light on..
Buggerit !!!
Went for a bit of a run to get some charge back in the battery ..
Turned her off, restarted but the fault was still there.
Dug out my ten quid OBD reader which there has been much debate about as to whether it would actually work on the Fiat van

Straight away it came up with
Fault: Crankshaft position sensor

Pretty obvious that it was not faulty as the engine ran just fine.. I just figured I had spiked the ECU turning it over with such a low battery.

Reset the fault using the reader and that was that.. All sorted.
The reason for this thread is just to confirm to folk the cheapo readers DO work and work just fine..

This is the one I have and use:

I have a handheld reader but now use an ELM Bluetooth plugin module and the Torque pro app on my phone.
Doesn't come much cheaper.

I leave the module plugged in all the time as I often get runs of false faults that need resetting.

For that money I will get one too !
Where did you get the app from John ?

I bought this ELM bluetooth reader, doesn´t work on my X250 - but does work on my Focus. I´m using Torque Pro on my phone to read it.

Torque Pro is an app in Google or Apple search in the app store (y)

Would imagine it will even work on the Bird if you haven't done the loom fix.
