Normal Driving Licence Expiry (1 Viewer)

Rather embarrassing thing happened today. I needed to book an hire car for the next 3 days (mines due into Land Rover Ipswich on Thurs) anyway I digress. As part of the hire process they ask for details of my driving licence, including expiry date, believe it or not it expired over 12 months ago. luckily I was able to get the details of the Gov web site which confirmed I still had all the necessary entitlements. Apparently the guy at the hire company said this is something which happens regularly.

Morale of the story, check the expiry date (Line 4b on the front of the card).

Ah they've always reminded me - and Pete now - every 3 years when it's due to be renewed.

Same thing happened to me when I started with a new company and went to pick up company car....lesson learned!

I got a letter this week telling me that my photo card is due to expire so need to renew it! Annoying as I'll have to do it again next year when I hit 70.

My photo expired over two years previous.
My new licence began on the date it was processed, not the original date of expiry.
Renew photo.... Just another revenue making exersize.

I got a letter this week telling me that my photo card is due to expire so need to renew it! Annoying as I'll have to do it again next year when I hit 70.

My original paper licence expired recently at age 70. I was happy to relinquish C1 entitlement (for now).

Applied online Saturday and said use my passport file photo. Astonished when a shiny new plastic photo driving licence popped through the letterbox on Tuesday morning.

And best of all - no charge.

That's the annoying part - I'll be paying £14 for a year's licence before changing it next year for an age 70 one!

I believe due to my licence card having actually expired (including the extension by 7 weeks), when I try to renew online in doesn't let me, it tells me to use the DVLA form D2, when I check form D2 it's for lorry bus or minibus. Can I ask if anyone else has been in this position and if so, what action and what DVLA forms did they use.

I got the 11 month Covid extension which then meant I should have renewed online by the 19th Feb 2021, which I forgot to do.

@ Claude. Can I ask if you used the DVLA form D1 or D2. This is driving me nuts trying to understand all the blub on google.
