I'm after an angled non spill AdBlue funnel for my Citroen Relay, I can use a bit of hose and a standard funnel but there's no way of knowing when its full and before you know it there's AdBlue all over the paintwork.

Cheapest one I can find is a Laser one on amazon for £29

Amazon product ASIN B072M516M1
Silly price, surely there must be a cheaper non spill version out there, or a DIY hack?

Pete

I use one of these.
Angled Fuel Funnel with fine mesh Filter and Handle, Doesn't Require Two People to use! (Black) https://amzn.eu/d/fUdCJ97

Unfortunately the adblue fillers are a badly thought out idea. On our Carthargo it is impossible to fill from the pump and when you use a funnel the stuff goes everywhere 🙁

I use one of these ,😁😁

Crazy that they put blue stuff in it. Passed a bus yesterday that had blue stains all down the side from the adblue filler. Probably the same stuff as in the Thetford fluid which stains everything.

Don't know what they put in that bus, the stuff I use is clear 😳

I dont need it, but admit the stuff Ive seen in gallon cans at the garage is also not blue. Perhaps its a special commercial grade like red diesel, or theyve been using recycled urine from a thetford toilet.

Looks like the answer to my question is 'no' then.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting some adblue on the paintwork.
It has happened to me many times as I just keep filling until it is full.
I know it says not to overfill but when you are filling out of a container it is impossible to know when to stop.
Just wash it off with some clean water immediately and it will be fine.

Go to an AdBlu pump. There’s an app which will tell you where they are but even on motorway service stations it’s cheaper than buying a plastic container and you can fill it to the top without spilling.

I thought it was much cheaper to buy a large container and do it yourself. Last year it was around £10 for 10 ltrs, its now about £17 for 10 litres, how much is it now at the pumps?

Then you also need to watch the ’manufactured’ date on the container - shelf life of 12 months…..

I do.

here's a daft suggestion, use a small submersible pump to transfer from a container to the tank via a clear hose.

Thanks, I've done a bodge job for now, (bodge being the operative word :giggle: )got a small funnel and connected a bit of garden hose to it by heating the hose and sliding it on, then tie wrapping it in place. I've put a small o ring over the hose so it rests against the opening of the filler when inserted and the hose goes far enough down the 'ole to open the shut off valve.
Attached a silverscreen sucker to the top with a keyring to hold the funnel upright and also have a small sink plug on a length of elastic, the theory is when its full, I put the sink plug in before removing the pipe, hopefully keeping all the excess adblue in the funnel to pour back in the bottle, not sure whether the vaccuum created with the plug will hold the excess adblue in the hosepipe but we'll have to see, can't test it yet as its full at the moment.
Total cost 99p so no biggy if it doesn't work. :giggle:

when we do a long Euro trip I always like to carry a spare 10 litres in the garage. by the time we've done 2000 miles (Southern Portugal) it probably takes it all. Then, when I see a pump I fill the can up. Usually buy from Screwfix. Worked fine for 5 years...But, the last one from Halfords. Holding up the full can to top up, the ****** spout came off. It covered the front of the van, and me. I was really happy about that.

Heath Robinson would be delighted his spirit of invention (bodging) lives on

On an add blue note how do you know when you are near or have ran out of add blue , ofc for diesel we have a fuel gauge , but for add blue ? Is there a light or something on the dash that comes on?

I bought one from Halfords, because I have a trade card, same as you the spout came off. I get it from Toolstation now. Unfortunately there are no pumps locally.

My adblue tank is inside a locker so not good if it spills.
Have had one of these from Amazon for ages now, I put the hose down a bit and as I pump it makes a gurgling noise but when the fluid gets to the hose it stops gurgling so I know it’s near full.

On mine (Citroen Relay)...

There is no 'fuel' gauge for adblue, just warnings on the dash, when your range is between 1500 down to 375mls a yellow sign illuminates.

Below 375mls it flashes along with a warning buzzer, never been that low yet.

Probably similar on Fiat/Peugeot versions but you need to check that out.

2016 Merc has a digital level gauge activated by the steering wheel button.

excellent idea, order just placed. Different make but at £9.60 it is throwaway money if it packs in

The latest FIAT dashboards have digital displays that show the AD Blue levels. Mine is reading 75% full after driving around 1000 miles. I like the idea of the pump, I must get one as topping up our Itineo is a nightmare.
