Just got our "new" van and it has a Dometic CA1000 air conditioning unit in the habitation area. The fan is very noisy. It is much noisier than the compressor. Is this usual?
If it is an issue, any thoughts on what the problem is and how to fix it?
Thanks.

fan shouldn't be noisy .. just may need cleaning ..
when dirty they can go out of balance and become noisy .. if not that, it may be bearings and need renewing

go back to dealer for them to look at it

Thanks, very useful reply. We did think about bearings as we have a washing machine with a dodgy bearing, makes a hell of a noise when it spins!

The A/C cover can be easily lifted off and you could then inspect to see it it is just dirty or it is indeed the bearings .. but of course that does mean getting onto the roof which may not be practical or advisable without proper access kit..

I used to clean my own .. I used a soft brush, ideally on the end of a vacuum cleaner hose, to clean the condenser fins and fan blades.. amazing how much detritus and leaves etc get trapped..

What sort of noise is it? Squeel, drone, whine?
They usually have a speed setting, is it the same at all speeds?

Thanks for replying, it's a whine and it is less at the lower speeds.

Could be dry bearings, first thing I'd do is get some fully synthetic engine oil on them. I oiled my ceiling fan with fully synthetic... Must be 5 years ago after it tightened up and stopped, it's still OK today šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘Œ
Normal oil only lasts 2 weeks.

If that doesn't work it's a new motor šŸ¤”
