I'm a newbie
Hi all,we are new to this we have a 2003 lunar champ 520e when we first filled fresh water tank up and put water pump on we had water...However we now have nothing and have not changed a thing????Any ideas would be gratefully received....

Can you hear the pump running ? If not could be as simple as a fuse.
Also possible you have an air lock.
I’m no expert and I’m sure others will be far more knowledgeable.

The pump is probably inside the water tank, can you hear it start when you operate a tap? Is the pump switch on on the panel? Has the fuse blown on the power unit front. Are the other 12v lights working?

Mike.
If its the same as ours its a calira under a bed with fuses on the front

did you run the tank completely out? (i'e when the tap starting coughing air, you went "oh" and filled up)
Could be just an air lock if the pump is running.
If it's the hot tap you have on it will take a long time to fill the boiler before it comes out of the tap and that maybe why the thing is cutting out (because it's overheating due to lack of water..
Leave taps running for a while and then let us know if anything changes.

You might have used up what you thought was a full, tank try filling it up again and that the drain valve is closed

Its an electric valve under the boiler which will dump all the system water if the temp around the boiler gets too low. Its designed to stop the boiler freezing and will completely dump any water that you try to pump. The reset for it is reachable under the bed

My money's on the safety dump valve.
Temperature drops and the drain valve opens and drains the tank and boiler to prevent frost/ice damage.

We need to turn the pump on in order to use the water, this is working as it makes a noise.
The 12v lights are also working so sure it's not a fuse.
We checked the dump valve was closed (also tried it set to open just cus we'd tried everything else!)
And the water tank hasn't been less than a quarter full so not run dry??!!@#

The dump valve will sometimes operate anytime - vibration - that's why mine is pegged until the temperature drops

I used to keep a clothes peg on my valve but then I found that it can still dump , I think the shaft is just to lift it into sealed mode. They are wonderful but you need to be aware that its there and what it can do

The Calira has seperate fuses for water pump and for lights, can you hear the pump running in the tank, its probably a submersible reached thru a big screw cap, could the ouput pipe have come off or the inlet be blocked.
So Is it running?

I see that you said the pump is definitely running so likely its the dump valve, which you have checked or the pump impellor is not rotating, they are only plastic.
As I said pop outside, fill the kettle it will be easy in the morning

Don't believe the water tank indicator - they are notoriously unreliable. Put some water in the tank and try to prime the system again.

I would put at least 20 litres in. (y)

On our 2005 H621 the tank is under the dinette seat in which is the submersible pump and the rods for the water level indicator, they can get slimy, just wipe them clean but the system has always been reliable as to level take it up to 50%. Underneath the tank through the floor is a 32mm valve to drain that water tank its up behind the skirt next to the exhaust pipe.
Hope all this helps I hope your van is sufficiently similar to ours
You could find that the pump is running electrically but not pumping mechanically. Our one just seemed to get tired in France earlier this year but they are easily replaceable but a bit pricey unlesss you shop around.
Where are you in UK tonight?
Mike
Good luck

Has the cold weather dump valve opened under the boiler? You will see it pi!!ing out underneath when the pump is running
Mike
My money is on the dump valve, we have had two hard frosts here the last couple of nights.

Try turning the tap on and sucking water through the tap - it might clear an airlock or identify other issues.

I hope you solve the running water problem. There is some good advice above. Also, if you are new to this, at this time of year to avoid running water on the inside of your windscreen, it is best to fit a silver screen or polar screen whilst sleeping in It!

I always carry a 10L container of fresh water as well as a full water tank - you always need a cup of tea....

Is the pump running continuously? If so it may be a simple airlock, also Lunars of this age did have water pump pressure problems.
