3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
After a few stopovers in Ireland this last week and similar experiences on occasions in UK, France and Spain it always amazes me how busy car parks in the middle of nowhere can be from 11pm through to 4am.

Cars coming and going sitting there in the dark. One car waits, another joins, a bit of seat swapping.

Had a boy racer do a bit of drifting past me the other night, popping and banging. A party car drove down onto a deserted beach in the middle of nowhere last night at 2.30am. Trouble is I'm a light sleeper, the wife just snores on through.

Sometimes I think I should stick to paid areas. And then some nights you get the perfect silent spot like this...

It’s made me feel a bit vulnerable at times, sitting locked up in the MoHo whilst it sounds like the wild west outside
Most memorable was a night just outside Inverness at a sort of Britstop, all was fine until the locals (about a dozen of them) piled out of the pub and started inspecting our vehicle with us inside it.

Unfortunately a lot of good MH spots are also good spots for young folk to go for a little smoke or get lucky with the ladies.

Midnight is not late to them. As long as they keep themselves to themselves and pass the dooby along I'm fine with it.

We found Donegal particularly bad for boy racers and the likes. How they can afford the fuel gets me?

Interested to know what time of year you were there? Wouldn't be June/July would it?

Those sorts of “sites” on search for sites are called dogging sites.
Many Funsters are dog lovers but probably not for them 🙁

I was parked up in Valkenburg on a large empty carpark by the lake as CMC had a rally on and prebooked all the pitches at the campsite.
Everything was peaceful until the bars closed when we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a 20 a side game of footy.
Remarkably there was no anti social behaviour, no bad language (unless I just didn't understand Dutch) no litter or chip papers and the ball never hit the van once.
I was ok about it, but OH was a bit twitchy

Open the blinds and flash your headlights around 1200, see what happens

Stick a flashing blue light out of the top vent and shout ‘nee naw nee naw’ out the window and you’ll be guaranteed a peaceful nights sleep . ;)

This reminds me of a tale our friends tell. Some years ago, somewhere in Ireland, they were parked up for the night at the bottom end of a pub car park with the landlord's permission. There was some sort of private party going on late in the function room but our friends retired to bed at their usual time and were just dropping off to sleep when the van started rocking and from the muffled sounds they could hear through the wall just inches from their heads it was obvious that a couple were using the back of the van as a convenient place to lean against while they got down to it. I asked the friends if they called out to let the couple know the motorhome was occupied but they said "No, we were all young once but it was hard not to laugh too loudly as our bed really started swaying crazily"

After years as a lorry driver I dont think I would wake up if the van was stolen.....with me in it 😱
Once you have slept in a layby next to a fridge truck then anything else is a quiet night 🤣🤣
Agree totally.. After literally having a bunk over the main engines in the mine sweepers I served on the Captain could select full ahead/stop/full astern and the two 18 cylinder Napier Deltic engines could scream their guts out reving up and down... no problem
However if they ever where to shut down and stop....PING... wide awake

I just fly the pink flamingo flag and put the pampas grass pots out around the van. I find that I always get plenty of space and clear the car park on every occasion.

Just don’t flash your headlights.
How do you know this? Seems some one beer me to this question.

Same with the vent going off. ⛴

I believe it is called "dogging"!

JJ
I think you might be right - it can be a bit disconcerting . The nicer the beachside parking area by day , the more likely dodgy activities overnight if you fancy a stop over ?
Sand dunes along Les Landes region of western France ; and a lovely family beach 20 kms south of Valencia ( which also appeared to tolerate some posing male nudists ! ) .

In 2017 we parked up for the night in a small town bang in the middle of Sicily.
The app said the large car park was ok for this, we even found a water tap.
One corner of this parking area featured a very large LCD screen that scrolled 20 or so adverts in rotation.
It was a sunday and the town appeared dead. Then as dusk fell the car park filled with cars, containing occupants of all ages.
Wierdly many lined up like it was a drive-in cinema but the only feature remained those adverts, all night as far as we could tell.

Yes there was a fair bit of socialising, but it never seemed to get rowdy or dodgy.
Eventually we retired for the night and they all must have left sometime in the early hours.

The story didn't end there though, we were awakened at 7.00 by a market trader as it transpired the weekly market was setting up around us and we were in his pitch! Had to make a very rapid exit to avoid being trapped for the day.

Never dull on our travels is it?
