Hi,

I'm starting to look at smallish coach-built motorhomes for family trips in the UK and France. Will be used for long weekends away and trips up to 2 weeks in France.

Current thinking is that an end kitchen layout would work best with double bed over can for kids and smaller double bed in dinette area for us.

This will be our first motorhome and budget £15K - £20k so vehicles are fairly old at this price range. There is a 2005 compass Avantgarde 300 for sale very locally that I may have a look at but it has done 110k miles. It has the Peugeot 2.0 hdi engine in it. Would this mileage but you off? Also, there is no habitation certificate so would you recommend getting this done?

Thanks in advance

How long since the last hab check? How many previous owners? I'd be wary if it's never had one.
Main thing is to check for damp.

Thanks for the reply Wendo. I have asked the seller a few questions and waiting to hear back.

I would be more concerned about condition than mileage. Definitely get someone with knowledge to check out habitation and look for water ingress.

Thanks all for the warm welcomes!
I have heard back from the owner. Last Hab check was 2018 when they had solar installed and a leak was discovered at that time which was repaired. Would this out you off? Vehicle has had 5 previous owners as well. May have a look at it to see the layout but thinking it's going to be better to hold out for a better one

Mindthegap, hi and welcome 😄, we have a hymer camp 5 berth..has kitchen at the back, long side bench, pulls out to make wider single bed..our dinette can also extend width says makes a good double, ( make sure you check, it's for adult sleeping, some can be quite small) also have very large overcab..granddaughter penthouse suite..our budget was similar to yours, it's a 2003, had 4 previous owners and I think..56000 miles, it suits us perfectly..( Well having an island bed..would be perfect  ) our payload is 3400, but hubby has C1 so if we needed to up plate we cou ld, but been to weighbridge, we were legal..with some to spare..good luck(y)
