New - transfer old tracker? (1 Viewer)

Hello
Can we transfer (or ask dealer to as it’s beyond my capabilities) our old tracker to new van? Or is it one of those jobs where just easier to install another?

Can’t see why not. If you have a subscription running then a dealer could move the equipment and register your tracker for you surely?

How old is the tracker?
That would influence my decision, technology moves so quickly these days.

I guess the dealer may say no, based on the fact that they do not know where the tracker is, unless they fitted it.

Most of a cost of a tracker, is getting the tracker fitted. It has to be done by an authorised person, or it won't be insurance approved. Transfering it might not save you much money. And you'll have a tracker with a battery that's already aged.

Speak to the tracker monitoring company as they can usually point you to approved installers (and re-installers) which could work out a lot cheaper than getting a new one especially if your subscription is still valid and has some time to run.

I asked moving intelligence the very question last week , £150 if both Van's are side by side £200 if they are not or the dealer could do it if they are qualified to do it, the sting is the subscription does not transfer and you have to take a new one out..

That just sounds silly? The main reason to transfer is continue the subscription.

“Is Vodafone tracker transferable?
If you sell your vehicle with the Vodafone Automotive System already installed, the Services are not transferable. The new owner must register with us to enable us to provide the Services directly to the new owner.”

I guess they have to re-register it to the new vehicle details but mostly it looks like a commercial opportunity to take some money.

If it's a lifetime subscription and you could change it from van to van they would never make any money, I guess they know what the average ownership time of a van is

Global telemetrics arranged to transfer mine at the dealers on changeover day cost was covered by the dealer in the deal no new subscription just carried on as normal with same cards

we found out after we had changed vans that the tracker could have been transferred to the new vehicle.
