Hi All

Can anyone please tell me if my new Fiat ducato A class based MH comes with any type of breakdown cover its a 19 plate if it does come with any Fiat recovery cover what type of cover is it and how long does it last 1 year 2 years ????

I was not told anything about breakdown cover by the dealer its just something my wife asked as her new golf came with 3 year breakdown cover by VW

If not who are the best people to get breakdown cover for covering europe (France, Belgium, Germany) we are 7.5 mts long and 4.5 tonne

Many Thanks

They used to come with Fiat Assist which covered our Burstner for two years but that was in 2008, someone with a new one will be along shortly to tell you if it is still the case.

Ask your dealer, they can extend the 2 year Fiat Assist to 3 years with a small payment. Not sure that I had any particular paperwork about it but you can use the Fiat app which, once you enter the vehicle details, will also tell you about recalls and services. Because I had no paperwork, I telephoned the very helpful contact line who told me the dates of the Assist cover.

I was told by Fiat direct the insurance warranty extension had to be done within 30 days of the purchase date

From my understanding there are two things here re the new vehicle.
1. Fiat assist re breakdown and recovery
2. Extended warranty re faulty parts and Labour (causing the breakdown).Through Fiat Mopar.

When buying the Extended Parts and labour warranty, the breakdown cover is included.

As mentioned already everything needs to be done at the time of purchase or within 14- 30 days, if i recall.

After this time you cannot take out the extra warranty.

I see that you have bought an A type, this most probably is not a UK built vehicle, so will only come with a 2 year vehicle parts warranty. If you want to get extra parts/labour warranty this can be extended to five years through Fiat Mopar.

You need to get onto your local Fiat Proffessional vehicle agent who will guide you through this....and take your money

Good luck

We extended ours after the 14 days deadline as Fiat Italy told us that they being flexible on the cut off date as a lot of motorhome dealers don't promote the warranty extension. There's another thread on this topic somewhere, but if you phone Fiat and explain you weren't offered the extension by the dealer they will probably tell you to toddle along to your local Fiat main dealer and they'll issue the extension. Worked for us - YMMV!

See you bought the Carthago, same layout as ours.We just love ours. Enjoy.. We were not told about the extension from our supplier so did not go down that road. Then after two year three week ownership had a sensor go on the the Auto gearbox on route to France, Fiat did not want to play ball. Fiat Portsmouth did a great job and got the parts free I paid labour( a great rate as well) £200 pound repair , so something to consider for peace of mind. The problem is where do you draw the line on paying out all the money.
We have now taken out repair cover with MB insurance, lets see how they are if I need to claim.

Ours is three years old and other than minor habitation issues in the two years no great dramas

Setting off to the South coast for the weekend so life is good

As I understand it the reason the motorhome dealer does not push the additional Fiat warranty is that there is nothing in it for them. AFAIK only a Fiat Pro dealer can take your money and activate the extended warranty. Very few motorhome dealers are also Fiat Pro dealers.

And the problem is that motorhomers form only a small part of the Fiat Pro dealers work, and are generally considered to be a pain up the a**e. In their mind we are fussy consumers who only want the best for their "baby".

My new mh is coming from Chelston Motorhomes which is also Fiat Professional Approved so hopefully I will be able to sort out warranty/recovery extensions with them at handover.

Well I spoke to a nice chap at imperial commercials in Derby today who informed me that I am over the time limit to take the extended warranty out its 14 days he told me. Anyway he has spoken to Fiat on my behalf and told them that I was not offered this by Southdowns or even told about it and Fiat have agreed to let me take the extra 3 years cover out so 5 years in total now for £170 and covers me for either 50 or 60k cant remember which it was

Great result and a big thanks to the forum or I would not have known about this so thanks (y)

Yes they asked me date of registration mine is March 1st and they have honoured it today 36 days later which is very good of fiat but poor of southdowns for not telling me fiat dealer said it's not in southdowns interest to tell me as there us nothing in it for them as it has to be done via a fuat authorised agent but I hope this is not the case
