New COVID variant in france

They were mumbling about a suspected new Covid Variant in France on LBC last night. It must have been established as fact now only a few hours later. Its becoming a worry about how this virus mutates and the speed at which it can infect large numbers, its almost like a horror movie.
It will be interesting to see what Boris & the experts have to say about it later, fingers crossed its not too severe, and our current vaccines can handle it.

For me it just confirms that we have to learn to live with this virus in the same way we have learned to live with the flu virus. Once we accept this is how its going to be we can move on. Annual vaccinations to protect the vulnerable and then onwards and upwards. It is what it is !

Not exactly mainstream news is it?

Likely we will get lots of mutations coming along and likely each one will weaken in its attempt to spread so hopefully it will end up like the flu that we have to live with.

What does ‘live with it’ mean ? Does it mean wear a face covering. Does it mean do t worry about those with compromised immune systems as they can just get it and die? This may be a strain that is weaker than the previous which will be great news but if not then how does scociety organise itself and protect those who would suffer or worse.

I have no idea what learn to ‘live with it’ means other than taking precautions that we have all done until the storm passes.

You’re really going to upset a lot of people, particularly the media with those wishes.

Apparently , according to latest reports it's already here, being monitored.

Live with it, means what it says, live with it ! Its here to stay, just like the cold, and flu virus and we need to adapt accordingly. If it means having to wear a face mask, so be it. if it means, accepting an annual death rate similar to the Flu virus, so be it. if it means, no travel without a recent booster jab, so be it. We just have to accept it is what it is and get on with it.

I dont think the Government are that worried about it at the monent, coz they are going to stop pre departure testing on entry to England by the look of it.

I believe the the reality is and will be, all Corona Viruses mutate. Flue, Common Cold, SARS. Plus many more. No news just scare tactics.
I see this morning that the PCR test is considered unreliable, goodness they are so slow, the inventor told them so long before these scare tactics.

There are more should you wish to search.

It has been around longer than Omicron, so I understand

Quote

The World Health Organization said a coronavirus variant found in France hasn’t become much of a threat since it was first identified in November.

The variant “has been on our radar,” Abdi Mahamud, a WHO incident manager on COVID, said at a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday. “That virus had a lot of chances to pick up.”

The variant was identified in 12 people in the southern Alps around the same time that Omicron was discovered in South Africa last year. The latter mutation has since traveled the globe and kindled record levels of contagion, unlike the French one that researchers at the IHU Mediterranee Infection—helmed by scientist Didier Raoult—nicknamed IHU.

The first patient identified with the variant was vaccinated and had just returned from Cameroon, IHU researchers wrote in a paper published on the medRxiv server in late December where they first drew attention to the atypical mutations.

It’s “too early to speculate on virological, epidemiological or clinical features of this IHU variant based on these 12 cases,” they wrote in the article, which hasn’t been peer reviewed.

Raoult stirred controversy in the early stages of the pandemic by recommending treatment with hydroxychloroquine.

The WHO monitors multiple variants, and when it finds one may pose a significant risk, it declares it a “variant of concern.” This one is only under investigation. I

We should do a Macron and shut our borders to the French. 👍😁
Waste of time. France is a gateway to Europe. How many French visit the UK ? Dover-Calais is a key transport connection which the French could close at any time at great cost to the UK. They know this and we know they would close it too and that's why they have an upper hand and will continue to do so until we find another port outside of France.

That's what I was going to say. It's been around awhile and hasn't taken off. It's got no chance against omicron! Media like to hype.
