My son in law has given me some movies on a memory stick in MKV format none of our TV's will play them all come up with "unsupported files". I have downloaded then uninstalled several so called free converter programs all have limited free use or want me to pay for premium versions and want me to accept third party web browsers and the like. Can anyone point me to a free program that will allow me to convert this format to AVI or MP4 without restrictions? Many thanks, its doing my head in :-0

Thanks Paul but I suspect uploading 1.4gb files with my very slow rural internet would take forever,

You can get media players (cyclone maybe?) which enable you to play multiple video formats via HDMI connection to the tv without the need to convert.

Most, if not all branded TVs since 2012 will play MKV files. Is it time for a new TV?:)
