Just come back from Morocco and nearly every French van had one plugged in !!
The supplied voltage on sites swung wildly between 160 and 300 and the fridge cut out regularly (thankfully) with no damage caused.
I am looking for one under £100 if possible,
but portable ones, which what is required, are hard to find .
Any one bought one, or found them online??
Thanks in anticipation.
Mitch

I have ordered The AVS 30 its not a portable one. The choices were amozan over £70 or ebay £45 from china
I,m expecting it in just over a week .After ordering things from china before have not had extra taxes but i am waiting to see and if it looks genuine. I,ve bought mine now so shall wait and see but it was pointed out you are trying to save damage to other items so is the saving worth the risk. I would say its not ,however i am expecting the item to be genuine. I will be posting results when it arrives

Sorry I don’t know what’s available. This is the one we bought last time we were in Maroc.

Mr Bricolage or Bricoma in Morocco both sell them, Bricoma has a larger choice at 549 to 3800 dhiram

The only place we needed to use it was at the campsite in Zagora. It was busy and I suspect the volt drop was due in part, to Motorhomers caning the rickety electrical infrastructure.

In fact Zagora is where we purchased the stabiliser. Lots of hardware type shops were selling them, which suggested there were problems in the locality.

I'm thinking about getting one of these when we arrive in Morocco but I'm not sure if I need one. We have a 12v compressor fridge but also use a low wattage induction hob and a Remoska.

Anyway, I'm confused about how you actually use these voltage stabilisers. How / where do you attach it between your van and the campsite electric point?

I fitted a Sollatek AVS30 to our motorhome.
It is fitted inside the van, so fit it once, set it up and forget about it.
Beware of fake units from China (some info on fakes on their website)

Having blown the electrics on our van once during a thunder storm in Spain, we fitted the AVS30. It's been interesting to see how it has dropped the supply and protected us during voltage fluctuations since. A bit of an eye-opener!

The AVS30 is permanently fitted inside your motorhome.
It is very easy to fit if you have access to the incoming power cable from the ehu port.
Just a matter of cutting the cable and connecting the 2 ends (6 connections) to the AVS30.

I’ll second that.

I fitted the AVS30 after a warning from Lenny HB regarding possible voltage fluctuation on the Italy to Greece ferries when ‘camping on board’.
It operated a few times after we’d boarded at Igoumenitsa but before departure. I presume the lack of load on the ship’s generators was causing the problem as it didn’t happen again once we were at sea.

This is the one i fitted and its been flawless HERE without it the fridge would constantly click thinking not enough power from EHU and try Gas but enough then not to actually use the Gas. Been using it for the last 2 years with no issues and no fitting required (ie not hard wired in) as it just takes one feed in from site EHU and then out to Motorhome plug so simple.
It was not under £100 though but the way i looked at it was that a new 12v Fridge would be far more than what this cost. It does look as though cost wise they are a lot more money now but in my view still worth it and a lot cheaper than replacing stuff that breaks through it. Also i used to get fluctuations when using things like the Airfryer or microwave etc which is now a thing of the past. Only seems to affect EHU from Europe though like Spain / Portugal as never had that here in the UK.

Yes, the same with mine. There was enough spare looped incoming cable from the EH to cut off a metre then loop on to my consumer unit. [ again thanks to a recommendation from Lenny HB ]. I've had no issues with it other than occasionally patience is required as it's sampling the incoming supply for it's quality, but that what it's there for. There are in line hook ups available on Ebay, but their not as sophisticated, and cost about the same. Whether or not they offer the same level of protection I'll let the boffins comment. If you're reasonably well DIY competent then fitting the AVS is straight forward. If there's insufficient incoming loop to cut some off, source a length of the same cable as enters into the consumer unit from E.U.
PS Amazon seems the best source for the AVS units.

I most definitely don’t want to (can’t!) install something permanently myself, no matter how apparently simple. Anyway, we’re catching the ferry tomorrow morning so it’s too late for that.

I was planning to buy a portable unit in Morocco. I’ve heard that people do that. But I’m wondering how you attach it between your van and the electric supply at the campsite, since the EHU cable has the special connectors each end and presumably a portable voltage stabiliser will have a regular plug. I’m also wondering what happens if it rains!

Click the Ebay link in my post above, but probably to late for your current trip.
Mike.

Ah, I see how that would be attached. Might see if I can get one in Morocco. Thanks.

See my thread above as mine is essentially portable with 16a plug sockets on each end. Mine is stored in the cupboard under where the plug goes into the motorhome. If keeping it outside I would put it under the vehicle in a box with grommets in to stop moisture / water getting in.

You did well, the 16 amp one is £290 now.

Lenny if your fitting a Victron Multiplus on your next van ( I think I read) you can program it to accept / reject over and under voltages you preset

It won’t run as AVS but won’t accept anything harmful in

Thanks Eddie I knew you could do that, the AVS has the advantage of surge protection but not a clue how well it works and as we seldom use mains may not bother with one.
