RP Rebel on order
Exp
Newbie
Im hoping for some tips for a campervan. My favourite & what is perfect for us is an RP Rebel. However their waiting list is huge & we may need to look elsewhere. perhaps even something we can sell after a year to get an RP.

Requirements...
Rear lounge. made up or drop down bed.
6m
Narrow, pvc or close.
Off grid 3-4 days
Winter proof

Nice
Merc, vw, Man base
4x4
PVC
Hab door on near side

Advice very welcome please!

Some big requirements there.
But.
I note you discount a ducato?

This will seriously limit your choices.
I've had 4 ducatos 1 iveco and a merc based motorhome..
Imo the ducato has been the best.

I think most will recommend what they have at the moment. The one you mentioned looks good but with only 80 litre water tanks not for us off grid for 3 to 4 days as we like a shower every day. The thing thats going to limit it also would be the toilet casette. Have you rented or borrowed one first it's a big spend without trying one first.

Sorry, not discounting anything. By "nice", I meant nice to have. Not a deal breaker. Likewise passenger side hab door nice to have, not a deal breaker.

Thanks

The RP Rebel is upgradable to 2x 100 litre freshwater tanks. They are also working on cassette storage externally in a frame somewhere. No way I can rent an RP unfortunately.

I meant just rent a motorhome unless you already have one.

I even looked at the Chausson X550, but the lack of a window put me off.

I looked at the rebel when you mentioned it before - they are lovely, but probably like hens teeth! 4x4 May limit you severely- have you thought if you really need that? Some A class vans are as narrow as pvcs, & would give you more of what you want. Look at Concorde & Hymer Exiis? Think about second hand as your first van - easier to get, & you can always buy a new mattress & toilet cassette if you feel the need!

Why are people so funny about mattresses do they insist on a new one when they go to a hotel?

Thanks, Concorde Cruiser looks nice, but too long for our trips (want 6m) & can't climb into those beds. I can't tell if the rear lounge is convertible. Hymer Exis too long, need a twin or U lounge.

Happy with 2nd hand, but it needs to work for us.

The RP Rebel 4x4 with a few options will set you back about 120 grand.

Buy a used Merc MWB 4x4 and get it converted, so much cheaper and you get exactly the spec you want.

There’s a few on here who will convert it for you.

I can't get my head around the RP Rebel and the like. Anyone who wants to do off-gridding and has AWD is presumably going to be out all day, not sitting in the lounge. When you get back, where are you going to put your muddy boots and your wet clothes, and how are you going to dry them all, and how are you even going to get to this mythical storage space without walking over all the nice bits? The Rebel is basically an upmarket bordello crammed into a Sprinter. Seems to me that it's pretty much useless unless you're going to use the AWD to get around a nice warm, dry, beach.

And the Sprinter is way over-priced, and is too narrow. I started with a 4-yo Transit, 23K miles. If you're wet you come in through the rear doors, where there's a wetroom(-ish) with drying, and storage. Total price 21% of the figure above. So I can afford to build 4 more till I get it right... 🙂

I'm a drone pilot. I need to carry my kit, recharge in out of the way places & get anywhere that has a track to it. I have to be self sufficient & available at a moment's notice. The drone kit is too much to carry for me & my spotter, camera operator. So park close, not much walking, off grid stuff.

When I was looking about a year or so ago the Rebel MWB base price was £69995 and the 4x4 option £9995, so 80 grand ish, maybe just over with a few more options added

Now it’s a good 30 grand more for the same panel van, even with the Merc base price increases it seems that they are cashing in somewhat on current the Motorhome madness and waiting list.

Make hay while the sun shines because it certainly won’t shine forever, just my opinion

The 4x4 isn’t even a separate add on option now, you have to buy the complete package for 110k. Very astute business plan.

They have 3 vans in the Rebel range. Premium, Exclusive & awd. So yes, awd is effectively an option, although in the price list you choose the base first. Which I think makes sense to me.

But you can’t now add the 4x4 as an option like you could before, for £9995.

It's because she changes them so often!!

Gimme a chance! :giggle: I've been entertaining my 96 year old Mum today so been a bit busy since I looked on the forum this morning. 😄

I've got a Carthago C-Compactline i-138 - shortest A-class they do and the narrowest available from any manufacturer that I'm aware of at 2.12m. Unfortunately it won't meet the OPs requirements as it doesn't have a rear lounge.

Where do you get that from the price for the Rebel package with 4x4 is £109,995 so it’s surely not 40 grand for the options?
If you get carried away it is. The options are in the download brochure.

Starting with a base, you can. Premium is 78995 with 317 engine, Exclusive 96995 with 319 engine, AWD 109995 with 319 engine. But extra 13k instead of 9k.
