Currently doing the NC 500 in our 6.4mtr Peugeot boxer PVC and have a question.
Can I do the part circled in green below or is the road to bad for a MH?
Reason I ask is I noticed like a link road with the images of a MH on it like if you are in a MH you must go this way. ( the road circled in red.)
I'm interested to hear from others who have done the section circled in Green of the NC 500 before.

Can't remember if we did that bit or not but it looks like there are 2 caravan sites along the road if they can get there I would have though you could too!

The first bit from Kinlochewe to Sheldaig is very doable once you have got used to the single track road concept. It is after all an "A" class road so you can get HGVs on it, even though single track. I turned off shortly after that to the windier but still A classified road round to Applecross and then went over the pass from Applecross., before rejoining that NC500 road again. II was in a 5.4m Ducato PVC. There were much bigger vehicles than me. It's mostly width that is the greater challenge if you meet a truck coming the other way, not length. Oh and inevitably there are a couple of blind corners steep bits you just want to take your time.

The Applecross path is the most challenging due to hairpins. Definitely unsuited to real length and width so no caravans. but any PVC should be fine.

have a look HERE for recent photos of part of the route. your looking at

We did the route over the top to Applecross in a Chausson coachbulit so it should be fine in aPVC but it was "interesting"!!!!!!

We did this section in April and went over the Bealach na Bà in our 7.5m (including bike rack with bikes) Bessacarr, it was fine but not for the “faint hearted”. As a previous post said, this route is used by HGV’s and buses.

Towed a caravan down that road a few times so you should manage in your van. Is it not a bit wet up there just now?

Bart did this with my 7.5 m motorhome in glorious sunshine July 2014. Just take your time and enjoy

You have missed out the best part though, which is the Belach Na Ba. This takes you down through Applecross then back around to your highlighted route. Best to go from the top down, i.e through Torridon Range to Shieldaig then take route from there, this was a great suggestion from the Wardens on the Caravan Club site at Kinlochewe. This route means you go down the big hairpins and not up! It was so busy at Applecross we could not get in with the van so parked up on a section of beach just before and had an amazing lunch looking right down the Loch with views over to Skye. A must do for me Bart. Enjoy :)

Interesting how folk talk about Applecross when the question was about the LochCarron loop!

Yes it is doable (we have a 6m Aclass).

It is narrow in places and there are a couple of places where you hope there is nothing coming the other direction, so if you aren't happy reversing, don't go that way. Travel at a speed which gives you time to stop and pull in to the side: the chances of you getting a stream of traffic behind you is zero!

A guy in a Hymer insisted on sitting close behind me for approx 1 mile. Then I pulled in and forced him to go ahead, with me leaving at least 2 "passing places" between us. BE CONSIDERATE.

OOPS SORRY! Just checked and I was referring to the Lochinver loop. LochCarron is a doddle.

We are currently about 8 miles from Applecross so don't think we have yet passed Belach Na Ba,
We are currently here.

Did that route in ‘17 in the current van and was fine for our size of van. Take your time and use the passing places, for traffic coming towards you and catching you up from behind.

I just left Shieldaig this morning past lock carron having travelled from Kinlochewe a few days ago on the route shown. It is single track but was fine and I am in a new 7.8 m motorhome so more nervous than normal. Although not what you are referring to, I did the Bealach pass on my bicycle and definitely wouldn’t do it in the motorhome. Was smelling burning clutches as I cycled up. The road round the north is more suitable. It still quite narrow until you get to the west side. The campsite at Shieldaig is very new and friendly and has great views.
