Bought a used motorhome from Midlands caravans 16th August, full MOT, habitation check, 6 months warranty. First weekend away 12 v lights not working, took it back, they said just a fuse and replaced it. 2nd time using it, 12v lights all working 2 nights. Now not working again, changed fuse not working. Phoned company they said earliest available date to look at it 4 weeks time 2nd November, be prepared to leave it with them, sounds more serious. What are our rights to a refund. Can't trust it now!

If you advise which motorhome you have ,it's age etc someone could probably help.
Have you got solar, how many leisure batteries, have you tried it in hook up.or just on 12v.

It is an Elddis firestorm 200 year 2003. We have used it on EHU that's fine. No solar and just one leisure battery.

I think your on an uphill struggle getting a refund for such a minor issue.
A simple multimeter would probably find the fault.
Multimeter on the leisure battery shows, 5.6v. When we bought it, wasn't shown 12v lights working, the salesman plugged in EHU showed lights working. He asked my husband, youre not doing any wild camping are you? My husband replied, not sure yet.

When you are on EHU your battery charger is feeding you 12v, not your leisure battery, its shot.

I very much doubt you will get anywhere with the dealer. Just replace the failed battery and send them an invoice

If you know how to use a multimeter, you can make a lot of headway in finding the problem. A leisure battery should be between 12.8V (fully charged) and 12.0V (as low as you should normally let it go) when nothing is charging it and there is no load connected to it.

If it's being charged, it should be between 13.0V and 14,8V. If it's any higher then there's a problem with the charger. If the voltage doesn't reach 13.0V then the charger isn't working.

Measure the battery without EHU, then plug in the EHU. The voltage should rise. For a flat battery, the voltage should gradually rise from whatever it starts at to about 14.5V over a period of hours. When it reaches about 14.5V, it should stay there for a further period, until it is 100% charged. When charged, the voltage should drop to about 13,5V, which will keep it topped up without overcharging.

You could also measure the voltage when the engine is running. It should rise in a similar way, showing that the alternator is charging the leisure battery.

The battery voltage of 5.6V is extremely low - I'd be worried if it was even 11.0V. I'm pretty sure you need a new battery. The question is, is it simply a duff battery or is it the charger that's causing the problem and ruining the battery?

It's cream crackered ,you need a new one

If the van was on ehu when checked everything that's 12v will work ok even if the battery was flat. You need some means of charging it up when off ehu.either driving between Stops or a solar panel but you need to get the battery changed.
