MPG

Just worked out the mpg. 3 litre ducato, 4.2 tonnes, 7.6m aerodynamic of a brick, Carthago.

25 mpg..

Happy with that, mostly motorway steady 55mph .
We had a swift Kon-Tiki at circa 4.5T that returned an average 22 mpg seemingly un-phased by how driven.

The 3.0L certainly has no issues with lack of torque and its a chain cam. Only problem with the MH was the comfortmatic gear box. Recovered 4 times in 2019, hence it had to go. Never sure to get there or home.

I think if we stuck to that speed we might get similar but I'd sooner get there quicker!
We all have different priorities but we often do Calais to near Lyon in a day.
It's only me that drives the Motorhome so That is one long drive for one person, approximately 750 km a good 8 to 9 hours with stops.

Working out at 32-35mpg usually 55-70 mph VW T5 2.5l. So long as I achieve 30+ I’m happy. I reckon any kind of hills would reduce down to below 30!

I must be a saint - averaging 30mpg in our 3.0l Comfortmatic using cruise control to chug along around 55 mph where possible
Me too, averaged 29.9mpg on the motorway in Germany around 60mph 3.0L 180bhp comfortmatic 5 ton Carthago👍.

I get around 35mpg (Citroen Relay pvc) - and try to NEVER fill up at motorway service stations

140 engine, 9 speed automatic gearbox and towing a scooter on a trailer, during our recent tour in Spain/France we covered 3,217 miles.

Some motorway but mainly A type roads with some narrow mountain roads too. Averaged 31.6mpg so was quite happy with that.

2.8 JTD and 26 mpg average under all driving conditions.

Best is 35 mpg
Worst 22 mpg

Mine has cost about £1.33 a day over the last year & a half , that’s just a reflection on how much I’ve used it ☹️ , 1200 miles to & from it’s annual service, 200 miles personal use , 4.5 t a class 180bhp , ZF9 auto , about 27mpg

Steady Sunday drive from Sheffield.
But usually about 30mpg

Fraid I learned a lot from me oul fella! what with interest rates and a fuel crisis, he developed the habit of knocking the car out of gear and freewheel when he didn't need power, and - contrary to the highway code - I have learned the same technique. I'm getting up to about 35mpg from my extremely old 2.5 Ducato in a mix of driving, tho I cannot realistically take it much over 50mph. I don't think that's bad for the age!

This is ok if you aren't very ambitious, but I recall a trip when we had to be home by a certain time and there was some harder, very much noisier, driving - 65mph+ (yee-ha!!!) and the needle went down alarmingly fast. I think on that trip I barely made 20mpg.

There has to be an argument for teaching smoother driving. If we time gear changes, anticipate braking and hold back from the vehicle in front, everything gets much smoother. It's easier on the brakes and steering too.

I always shout to the crew behind: "roundabout", well in advance, so they get to hold onto stuff before the van moves to one side or the other!

My 2.3 Multijet 150PS engine is still quite tight as only done 8.5K miles or so, but I think its MPG is improving over time/distance
I must confess to playing the MPG game with the average MPG meter, I try and keep it above 27.4MPG dragging 3850Kgs.
Long hills kill it down to 23/24MPG, as do towns and stop start ques on A roads & Motorways, but keeping a nice steady pace, driving smoothly as possible helps the MPG greatly even up to 65MPH on the flat, the average MPG meter can hit 31/32 MPG in such situations.(y)
I guess its even more important these days with derv up at £1.80 a Ltr.

The last few miles it’d be like Driving Miss Daisy for me.
I’d have to hit the 30mpg 😂
TBH I was going 100-115kph the last hour as I was getting a bit impatient after 8hrs in the seat😁😁👍

Our roller team 690 managed 26mpg. This has the overhead cab
We got the 685 (no overhead cab) currently at 29.9 mpg and increasing slowly.
Same engine, same weight being carried, same driver and similar driving.

23 - 24 for us 2.3, 150hp, when it was new used to get 26 - 27, done 33k now.

Strangely enough when Arsenal played Lyon several years ago we left our hotel at about 10 am and sat in a restaurant in Calais about 4pm that afternoon. Mind we did travel at over a ton in two cars, can’t remember any bloody cameras ect in those days and we stopped somewhere to pee ect.
Just back from France last weekend and turned in 30 to the gallon in our new to us Rapido.

The old 2.8 J t d averaged 26 mpg. The 2.3 Hymer over 89000 miles average 31.5 we treat it as a leisure vehicle not a race car . The mpg goes up considerably if we have a tail wind and obviously the opposite if a headwind
