I have seen a test with near identical MHs with 3 different engines from the smallest to the largest and the differences in mpg between them was minimal. Small engines work harder than big ones and it can even itself out.

2.8 @ 25mpg
Well with due respect I don't think that's quite true. I am an ex HGV driver of over 22yrs experience and learned that there is a lot of difference, but I thank you very much for your answer as it is possible that it may be a 2.8 that we go for.:)

Yes but in the haulage industry 3 mpg can be the difference of changing the fleet or not. Over say 50,000 mls at said 3mpg it's an awful lot of fuel/mls.

2.8 jtd - between 20 and 26 mpg depending on wind, speed and many other factors to numerous to list. To be honest I don't really care as the whole package gives me so much pleasure.

I wonder if the auto box helps it stay in such a narrow band?

My experience is cruise will reduce mpg somewhat, as especially on hills it strives to keep the mph, when allowing a small reduction on the gradient will help.

I have a 2.2 which is mapped. Worst 22mpg, on motorway at 75, best 30, poodling at about 50/55 mph on A roads.

I kept the computer running on ours for around 8000 miles from new and it averaged 27.9. This is a 2.2 Euro 5.
I reset the computer and did a 2800 trip and it told me I was doing 32.2.
So I reckon around 30mpg on average. I don't generally drive slowly.

Last van had a 3 litre on a four tonne chassis - got 26.8 mostly towing a boat over about 11000 miles so would agree with Hugh. Mine was overcab as well, but the major difference as said above is the use of the right foot.

Current van is an A class with the 2.3 150 engine and getting (coincidentally) 26.8 mpg but only 2000 miles thus far.

The above figures were from a spreadsheet (habit from the old car tax days - the day I start worrying about mpg is the day I sell the van) as the trip computer is not trusted

2.2ltr, 100bhp, 5 speed, 3300kg MAW. Cruising at 60mph (or 90kph abroad) always top 30mpg.
Mines a 130 bhp 2.2 on a Peugeot it's only 2 yrs old. We had it from new it's not the donkey under the bonnet wat makes a difference it's the muppet behind the wheel.......( Traffic officer wright. I was on A34 back in 2003 was caught doing 72 mph in my truck 2 in the morning..... Lesson learned...... Right foot lighter from then......)

I thought it was generally found cruise control doesn't help mpg? The problem is when you come to a hill it will floor the throttle if necessary to maintain the set speed.

I also agree .. but it is good practice to keep track of MPG as any sudden drop or change can be the first sign of a problem that may go unnoticed until it gets critical.. and you have a breakdown.

For example.. I have tracked my 2.2lt petrol CR-V for 3 years , I do this by brimming it and recording the millage .. ( I use an on-line app called Fuelly , it is very good, ) and it was consistently returning an average of 30 mpg .... then last winter it dropped to about 26..

At first I thought it was just due to the cold weather, using air - con for demisting etc . I checked the air filter, tyre pressures but nothing was obviously wrong.. so I had it checked at the Honda dealer and they found a sticking rear disc caliper..

So yes, don't worry, I never did with the 12mpg RV .. I cried a lot though.. but do keep tabs on it ...
