Martin has made a new friend with the guy next door. He’s living out of his caravan and was repairing his back window yesterday so we leant him our drill. We have no Italian, he has no English but it kind of went ok. (We got the drill back!).
He returned the favour today by waking us up to tell us how to get to the market in town.
As those of you who know Martin can imagine how thrilled he was with that info...I couldn’t get out of bed and on my pushbike quick enough! ..

Fano has a lot to offer, beautiful old town full of cobbled streets and squares, a marina and beach. It’s very quiet now but I expect it’s heaving in season.

Plenty of work going on to get the beach ready.

Of course all that cycling and shopping meant we just had to have lunch out. At €1.50 per slice, it wouldn’t be rude to only have one each...

We are planning to visit Greece next April and will follow you thread with great interest.
Safe Travels.

Thanks, I’m sure others do it properly, we just bumble along. I’ll get Martin to put the ferry information up, a few different options x

Thankfully he’s happy to work without martins “help”.

My Grandad always used to say “that Martin does one job, makes three”.

Poor guy would have no caravan left..

Thanks! Our initial plans at this stage are down through Italy for the ferry and then probably pushed out of Greece end of June due to heat then snake our way through Bulgaria, Romanian, Hungry, Slovakia, Austria and Germany or a minor variation of that route. Might even re-visit Croatia on the way back.

Pineto has sunshine..

CE4E9564-0D4B-45B6-B78B-69D9DA0A74D7.jpeg

And happy campers!

We strolled along the beach with gorgeous ice creams enjoying the sun and Millie running around like a nutter.
At home the majority of her walks are off lead on the beach but being away it’s been harder to find places where she can have some freedom.
The Italians love love love Dogs! They even take them into supermarkets or any shops, we’ve been surprised to see them allowed everywhere.

She definitely remembers “ciao Bella” from our trip here when she was only 5 months old.

There is a long cycle/walking track along the seafront which we will explore further tomorrow.

We can imagine the people here in a few months!

We passed this little old fiat 500 on our way and it made us smile.

We’ve been talking to a couple from the Netherlands who are parked next to us. They are catching the ferry from Bari to Albania then driving around Greece for a few months. I’m wondering now if we can go home that way...I’ll get the maps out!!

Ciao laters.

Looks to me as if you have that very well planned. Not a million miles away from what I have planned so far and I might nick one or two of your stopovers in Italy, although I plan to use some of the free services on the toll roads and free/very cheap Camper Contact stopovers along the cost.

@PhilandMena we've used either park 4 night or camper contact and have all been free.
We just make it up as we go depending on weather and how much driving we fancy. We should possibly spend more time choosing stopovers but we aren’t that fussed.

The one near Colmar was great.
San Marino we were the only ones there, fabulous views but it’s a hike to the top! Although there is a cable car.

If you stop over in Fano, there is a free car park on the beach next to a small campsite (€6 per night). We used the car park one with the locals in caravans near the town!

I’ll start putting more details of where we are staying, it’s all subjective though.

A lovely morning pushbike ride through the pine trees in Pineto. Keeping the sea on our left, towards the tower.

Dedicated cycle path and track for miles, with little cafes on the beach. This was a really great stopover place.

This was our spot for the night campercontact no 73513
Viale Delle Rose, 64025 Pineto (just off the SS 16 road).
plenty of space, free but no amenities other than bins.
In the far right is a passageway to town and the beach, about 400 meters to the best Italian ice cream shop...so far...ciao

15th May Ger, but we are thinking of going down past Bari to see the tiulli houses. We’ve given ourselves too much time before the ferry really, but too expensive to change. More Italian ice creams aren’t really a hardship!

We didn’t go far yesterday just to Lanciano and campercontact no 12843.

It’s absolutely chock a block with churches.
We went into the Basilicata looking for relics for @cliffandger but we just can’t sniff them out like Ger can. Apparently somewhere was a vial of Jesus blood but it’s too well hidden for us!

We wandered around, it was so sleepy, just the noise of church bells, cooing doves and a faint murmur of Italian radio bubbling out of the open windows. Our walk was significantly slowed by Millie stopping to sniff at every corner.

In Catholicism the Miracle of Lanciano is a Eucharistic Miracle which is alleged to have occurred in the eighth century. According to tradition a monk who had doubts about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist found, when he said the words of consecration at Mass, that the bread and wine changed into flesh and blood. The Catholic Church officially claims the miracle as authentic....blimey, that explains all the churches then!

We were lucky to catch the fruit and vegetable market on Saturdays so we bought some supplies and had coffee whilst people watching. Italians have a great style, the square lined with benches full of very dapper old men in mirrored sunglasses and cravats.

Ooooooooo but you did find relics of the Eucharistic Miracle, just didn't get close enough to the High Altar to get photographic proof!

Photos are brill, and you seem to be chilling, which is lovely. We're really jealous, but just glad you're having a lovely time, albeit without your relic finding mate! Only this morning whilst on our walk, we were chatting with a friend who lives down the road, and he mentioned his wife comes from Turin. Well, I just had to tell him about our escapade with the 'Turin Shroud' ........ He was still laughing two fields away...

I've tried to find the thread the escapade was on, but couldn't. However I found this on a thread about 'unforgettable holiday moments'.....

Ger, we are missing you both! I was only remembering our funeral gate crashing whilst in a church yesterday! Unfortunately the doors were locked to the flesh and blood relic so could only photograph through the glass.

All very chilled here though. Hard not to be really! Love to you both xx
