Well it’s been a crazy 2 months since we got back from a winter in Spain. We decided to sell up and move to Spain permanently as we are at our happiest when we are there. We put our bungalow on the market and it sold the next day!! We enquired about exporting our beautiful left hand drive Hymer but the estimated cost of €30,000 put paid to that idea however the friends we travel with jumped at the chance to buy it so that was another obstacle removed. It was with great sadness that we watched them drive off in it today. We move on Tuesday as the sale progressed really quickly. The other stumbling block was the strike at the UK Spanish consulates which was announced the week we sold our bungalow however we discovered today that the strike is over so no more hurdles hopefully. All we need now is our appointments for our visa applications and hopefully that will be the last hurdle sorted. We will buy another motorhome once we are settled in Spain. How exciting :dance2::gum::sun:

£30,000 to re register a motorhome:unsure: How can it be that dear? No wonder you sold!

Brave move - best wishes!

What hurdles are there to moving permanently to Spain now we have left the EU? I guess you need to prove a certain amount of income and apply for residency and eventually I suppose Spanish nationality?

The main criteria is proving sufficient income to meet the new higher requirements post Brexit. You must also have private medical insurance initially but that’s no problem. Fingers crossed they look kindly on our application 🤞🤞

Fantastic move and we've been looking to do the same ..... but at the moment if you reside in Spain your UK driving licence is only valid for 6 months .....then you have to take the Spanish theory and practical driving test in order to drive in Spain!!! Another Brexit hurdle !!

Good luck and best wishes to you, I would have liked to do the same.
Is there a hookup where you're going, just planning ahead😁

Ahhhh Kerry. I see you've "come out" now 😂.

I'm keeping my 🤞🤞🤞🤞 crossed for your NLV appointment. Don't get it, and move, too soon. Remember the tax 👍🏻 although I don't think you'll have to worry, things don't happen that fast at the best of times. You'll be OK from July onwards.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your plans and where you finally decide to live. It's not going to be too far from us, so a meet up and or a bike ride sometime must be on the cards ☺

Take care xxx

That true, they are working on coming to a reciprocal agreement but as Spain has lost access to DVLA database post Brexit it’s proving a stumbling block as they can’t see if someone has been convicted of offences in the UK. At least I think that’s what it is :rofl:. We have friends in Spain who have taken the test and said it was just a paper exercise but that may be because they were already resident?

Yes, now both the motorhome and bungalow are sold it seemed safe to believe it is actually going to happen :Grin:.Most definitely looking forward to you showing us some good cycle routes. We can’t actually move across until September to avoid being tax resident this year as we were in Spain until the end of February. We were going to come back in June to start house hunting but that would have pushed the move date back even further so we’ve booked 2 weeks all inclusive in Egypt instead :rofl:

Who did you use for private medical insurance please?

Maybe that was the medical and test on the computer that you have to do anyway. We had to do it when we exchanged our licences.

More information on the licences is expected this week 🤞🍀🤞
I’m optimistic they’ll find a way to reciprocate, it’s just those that are currently already in Spain that are affected. I’m hoping that by September it will all be sorted

I was shocked by how much duty you were asked to pay to import your motorhome into Spain, I was under the false impression that if you were going to live there permanently that you had a period where you could import it tax free but that you couldn't sell it for a year. I found a link for anyone thinking of moving permanently to Spain, note it says you must have a Spanish driving licence before you can import your vehicle.

That’s interesting, I wonder if that’s correct? We weren’t told that was an option. We had to send a copy of our log book and that’s when we got the quote back for €30,000.

Thanks, where they quoting at a normal level? Did see people getting really silly prices from AXA
It was just over €2,000 per annum for the 2 of us. I want to make sure I go with a company that the consulate is known to approve.

That’s excellent value, what level did you choose as I did see they have many choices, AXA quotes are in the region of £ 8.000😱

Such an exciting stage in your lives Kerry and Glynn. We will be watching the driving licence thing with interest.

By the way, you can only buy somewhere near to suitable motorhome parking!!! Don't forget to research that will you? Although we are not adverse to driveway surfing.😎
