can some of you please help me .Our local District Council Devon are considering allowing overnight Motorhomes in some of their car parks in East Devon. They have asked me give them a list of other councils who allow this.

Names of councils/townsany charges please.

Arundel in West Sussex allow overnighting in their car park oposite the castle entrance. It has an area for Motorhomes and the notice board say no overnighting or cooking in vehicles without prior permission, you ring the number on the notice board and a guy comes over and gives you an overnight ticket (£10).

Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.

Sorry don't know what the charges are but very little I believe.

Richard.

Canterbury City Council allow it in their Old Dover Road Park and Ride car park

Bury St Edmunds current charges are £1 overnight, £2.30 daily..

Canterbury P+R is £3 and includes bus ride into Canterbury.

All info on these and others is in the Brit Stop book and CamperContact.

We also contacted a few councils in the north of England when we were considering touring the area.
We got a reply from some councils including Doncaster, where parking is available in Chappell Drive car park, but no costs.

Might be worth emailing a few councils or tourist information centres for details of their parking schemes. Most are happy to help but some just refer you to nearby campsites.

We are going there this weekend as it’s Arundel’s farmers market even though it’s only a few miles from us

Hi
I replied with a couple of names but the thread is collecting very useful info

Would you consider collating it and putting it in as a resource?

no idea Graham.. it popped up doing a search ..
I've never seen it before Jim, and I do such searches from time to time just in case anyone has been pinching my stuff again (that site certainly hasn't).
Whois says it was registered on 30 June last year so maybe the owner has been building it and only recently published it.
Anyway, as I say, good luck to him/her. Nice to see somebody willing to put in the effort.

Update on Canterbury info above.

In addition to the New Dover Road facility the Council will be opening a new and bigger one at Wincheap P+R - I had a meeting with the Parking Manager, Colin Perris, who had sought out my advice re facilities to be provided there.

The current charging structure, which changed sometime last year, is £3.50 from midnight to midnight, so an overnight stay costs 2 x £3.50.
