After a wait of about 6 weeks I have finally received an email from the relevant councillor regarding overnight motorhome parking in Dover.

‘.......Firstly, sincere apologies for not getting back to you but, and this isn’t an excuse, we had a major issue with our Email system and lost a number of Emails.

There is currently, following complaints from residents advising that a minority of motor home and caravan owners were involved in some anti social behaviour so we have for months been trying to work on how to address this. It is, as you will appreciate, a very somewhat difficult balance that we are trying to get in addressing residents concerns and in understanding the need of tourists.

We are currently out on a consultation exercise that will permit Motorhome parking on Dover sea front during our normal charging period for the appropriate sum and that , 7 days a week, be allowed to park for a one off charge of £10. We are also suggesting in the consultation that motor homes and caravan be allowed to park free of charge, again in the Maison Dieu Car Park.

As mentioned above, this is all out fo consultation at the moment so nothing and no start date is yet fixed.

Regards

Cllr Nigel Collor
Dover District Council
Portfolio Holder for Transport & Licensing
Member for Whitfield Ward....’

In my original email I mentioned having to stay at Canterbury park and ride because parking is no longer allowed on Marine Parade, Dover.

Plenty of Funsters get the ferry from Dover I’m sure. It seems something might be done.

As I recall Maison Dieu isn't very big, unless we're allowed to park in the coach bays which I think will be a no-no.

But at least they are considering it, which is a step forward. Shame there'll now be a charge though.

I'd aim for Walmer - it's 15 mins to Dover

It's flat, there are some nice places for an evening meal.
Roadside parking if you are discreet is possible on The Beach road.
By Walmer castle there is at least one car park without gates (and has a public loo)

A one off charge of £10 to park for a few hours at night ? they are having a laugh surely, it was always free during the night hours.
Dover relies on the docks for employment, without it then it would be a ghost town surely they can provide overnight parking for ferry traffic somewhere at a very reasonable cost or even free it is to their benefit after all

it always appears to be a lot of unused space within the ferry port why they dont have some parking i dont know

Seriously go to Deal, Canterbury, Walmer. You have so many nicer places surrounding it. Not even far to return to the docks. Give me a shout if i can help further! Good to get a response though. Credit on that front ?

The latest Google (June 2019) shows that all the Car Parks along Kingsdown Road have gates and are locked 8.30pm to 7am.

The Royal Oak at Capel le Ferne, Used to take Overnight stops?.

Except the one with the loo, opposite Granville Road.
There is also a layby just before it and just after it

We've used Maison Dieu many times without problems, even with half a dozen in there's plenty of room - and it's free at night.

We now tend to use the Park & Ride at Canterbury. Decent pub by the entrance and £7.00 overnight. Free bus to and from town if that's your preference. There is also a cracking Indian but you need to book weeks in advance.

.......so......a charge of £10 is going to stop all the anti social behaviour issues......i think not! Be interesting to have an explanation as to what the behaviour is and how payment of a fee will stop it. If it was that simple councils all over the country would be charging people as they enter town centre areas on a Saturday night to prevent anti social behaviour!

I usually park up by the Castle FOC
