We bought a new motorhome earlier this year and up to yet we have not stopped buying things for it. It's like kitting out another house. When do you known when you have enough stuff.

I know its just because I own a hire company but I truly believe that ownership will drop and people will either lease or hire in future. They're getting more and more expensive to own.We bought a new motorhome earlier this year and up to yet we have not stopped buying things for it. It's like kitting out another house. I think its more financial than behavioural. Ownership is super expensive. So much so that I don't actually own one for myself. As much as I'd love to I just can't justify the expense. I only ever go away in them once a year too.Really interested to understand what makes you think this, other than I’m sure (due to your business interests) some clever business modelling, but what underlying behavioural changes pertaining to Motorhomes are driving this?
Most of us go away multiple times a year even if it's just for weekends. When we were working we used to go away at least twice a month as well as a 3 week holiday and a couple of one week holidays. Since retirement we tend to do a couple of months at least during the year as well short breaks. So for us it is worth owning. Don't think we could justify hiring that often!I think its more financial than behavioural. Ownership is super expensive. So much so that I don't actually own one for myself. Aah, okay I understand now, you’re looking at it from a casual user perspective then. I will do 200 nights in mine this year, would be very expensive using a hire approach. I would imagine many funsters will be using their Motorhomes for 10 weeks plus in a twelve month period…
What kind of research have you done into this? Where is the break point between a hire approach and owning one in terms of average total cost per night owned vs hired?
Totally depends on how much you use it. Perhaps you could give us a quote for three months hire so that we can compare.I know its just because I own a hire company but I truly believe that ownership will drop and people will either lease or hire in future. When you start selling said "stuff" and putting the funds towards buying other essential "stuff"...We bought a new motorhome earlier this year and up to yet we have not stopped buying things for it. It's like kitting out another house. When do you known when you have enough stuff.
Then you run into the issues we found last year ;- hire is from Monday, music festivals end on a Monday so most hire firms wanted us to hire from the Monday of the week of the festival (which would start on a Thursday) until the Monday after the end of the festival! I tried negotiating with hire companies “I’ll get it back by noon.” “Sorry sir it must be returned by ten a.m. and if it’s dirty you will lose your £750 deposit!”Totally depends on how much you use it. Perhaps you could give us a quote for three months hire so that we can compare.
You mean like this? It was one of our previous campers! In my defence it was stuffed to the roof with duvets from where I worked which had been donated to the Hull Greyhound Rescue charity that I'm involved with!I always thought that you had enough stuff in the MH when the walls start bulging out and no matter how hard you try you can’t quite close the hab door.
Finally used a microwave steamer bowl this last trip, its been in the van for nearly 3 years has now had a use of 3mins to heat frozen creamed leeks.Don't worry about it ,they will all come in handy, one day
